Roe Overturned

The link contains the opinion. Looks like Don wrote it.

I find it interesting that in one decision, the court ruled that states cannot make their own rules and in the next they returned the question of abortion to the states. I am having a difficult time weighing these differences.

They decision stated that abortion is not a right that is in the Constitution. Neither is the right to ANY medical care. Based on what I read, states can now determine that treatment for cancers and other diseases can be denied. That may be a touch hyperbolic, but still…

In 6-3 ruling, court strikes down New York’s concealed-carry law

I’d like to hazard a prediction here: The one-party Democratic states–California, NY, Illinois, etc. are going to suddenly rediscover the concept of federalism and these decisions are going to provoke a new nullification crisis. I think the US is heading to some sort of soft Balkanization. Does VA go with the liberal northeast, or with the deep-south bible belt? Some sort of mid-Atlantic borderland? Aren’t we lucky to be living in “interesting times?”

Veterans Affairs Employee Captured on Video Body-Slamming Vietnam Vet

https://taskandpurpose.com/news/video-va-employee-body-slamming-veteran/

Okay, I just need to vent here. I don’t expect anything to be done. Nothing is ever done. I was a victim of “military medicine” for 20 years so I speak from experience.

But this is outrageous! A 73-year old Vietnam veteran went to the VA to discuss a hernia operation. While sitting in the waiting room (probably for hours) he had to go to the bathroom. He knocked on the door to let the “patient advocate” know he would be in the bathroom — on the off chance he might be called while he was gone. The SOB at the door starts off by jabbing his finger in the man’s face. Then, he pushes this 73-year old man, who looks to be much smaller than him, into a corner, chokes him with both hands, throws him across a chair, and kicks him in the head while he’s lying on the floor. Then he leaves the room, leaving the unconscious man on the floor. And the CENSORED still has his job!!! He should not only be fired, he should be in jail for assault and battery!

This is unacceptable! This will not stand! These are my guys! They went through hell in Nam for nothing, only to come home and get spit on for having done what their government demanded they do. The names of a lot of my graduating class are on that wall in D.C. The ones who made it home deserve better than this!

Okay, rant over. Resume normal discord.

What We Know About the Police Response to the Uvalde Shooting

https://www.thecut.com/2022/06/what-did-police-actually-do-in-the-uvalde-shooting.html

As the locals keep getting caught in lie after lie about their version of events, “what we know” is what we should have known for years–that cops do not exist to “protect and serve,” but to harass and terrorize us in order to maintain power and control.

Also, we may have to concede to Don’s claims about carrying. If the cops presume you to be unarmed, they are more than happy to beat and murder you; however, if they *know* you are armed, they will not intervene to stop you from doing anything–up to and including the massacre of school children. Cowards.

Fool me once, shame on you; Fool me twice, shame on me.

One has to wonder how many times do some people need to be lead down the primrose path before they stop believing the con man doing it to them.

Many of our “conservative” posters in this forum have breathlessly repeated every exaggerated story of how the Durham investigation was going to vindicate Donald Trump and many Democrats and national security officers were going to end up in jail for perpetrating the Trump-Russia “hoax”. Their glee at the prospect of “Lock them up!” was palpable.

This has been going on for two years now, with the latest being the expectation of a conviction and damning revelations in the minor case of Attorney Sussman accused of lying when he said he was reporting what he knew acting on his own. The jury heard the thin evidence and the strong countervailing testimony and rightly and quickly decided “Not guilty.” Has their day in court satisfied these “conservatives” once and for all? Oh no! The jury was biased because they are “urban”, “real Americans” would have convicted, and Durham still has major revelations ahead. Here is some advice – don’t hold your breath.

Along the same lines, the Big Lie has been vociferously defended by people who unquestioningly take Donald Trump at his word. I well remember the “conservative” excitement over the video showing ballot box stuffing in Fulton County, Georgia, where, you know, a lot of “urban” people live. Even though the story has been debunked again and again by Republican officials, they stood by it, repeated it and spread it. Today’s hearing presentation was absolutely definitive. It was all bullshit. Donald Trump was informed again and again that it was bullshit but that did not stop him from weaving a tale of election theft as he fired up the troops to assault the Capitol.

Does anyone have an explanation of why so many supposedly normal people are so eager to be fooled? It seems the more obvious the lies, the more eager they are to be hoodwinked.

Is it ethical to purchase a lithium battery powered EV?

Source: CFACT.

It is interesting to contemplate that the laws of physics are in some sense the basis of morality, but — to be fair — that is not really the point of the source article.

The point (according to the source) is that EVs cause more damage to the environment than GVs (gasoline vehicles) or other fossil fuel-powered vehicles.

I don’t begrudge an EV owner his purchase, but I reject the idea that EVs are good for the economy or for Gaia.
