Further evidence that what we are going through did not have to be this bad. Based on science – not politics – the government of New Zealand took drastic and economically painful measures sooner, rather than later. The results speak for themselves.

I see lots of comments here in the Forum to the effect that Covid-19 could have been predicted and we could have been better prepared for it, but nearly all such commentary is, in my view, irrational and a waste of time.

The Richmond publication Bacon’s Rebellion opines today that the data on the VHHA dashboard is more comprehensive and meaningful than the data on the Virginia Department of Health web site.
Perhaps an answer to “Why hydroxychloroquine?”
Trump has a minor stake. His allies, a lot more. I hate to be cynical, but it is further evidence that the only American Trump truly cares about is himself … and some of his fellow billionaires.
Are we hopeful that this could be a helpful medication for treating those suffering from COVID-19? Yes. But why is it that anecdotal evidence is outweighing science and proper testing?
Party First – People Last
Republicans have overruled the governor and have required that Wisconsin hold its primary election today. This requires people to risk their lives in order to vote. This ruling is by the GOP-dominated Court that is likely to lose a seat if the election is re-organized to be safe. Self interest above the lives of the people. That is the party of Trump in a nutshell.

Potentially positive update

The University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) has been sited by the WH quite a bit.
Apparently a new influx of data shows a potential drop in the number of deaths and the number of ventilators needed.
