A Liberal Essay against the use of cancel culture

Yascha Mounk, founder of a new Liberal blog, Persuasion, uses George Orwell’s defense of P. G. Wodehouse to call on all to stop the madness.

His closing paragraph is telling: “The obligation to stand up for the wrongly accused—even or perhaps especially when they are imperfect—remains as important now as it has ever been. So I shall do my best to live up to the example Orwell set in much more perilous times. And I hope that you will, too.”

Northam sucks at threat assessment

None dare call it a riot

When tens of thousands of 2nd Amendment supporters went to Richmond, no windows were broken, no arson was committed, no one was harmed or threatened, and we didn’t leave behind so much as a gum wrapper, but Northam declared an emergency, closed streets and parking, and even had snipers on the rooftops.

But not a bit of State preparation for the destruction, arson, and attacks on the Richmond police.

Apparently Northam doesn’t understand the difference between a protest and a riot.

Sweden: the One Chart That Matters

I remain shy about claiming Sweden’s Covid-19 response has been a success. Maybe we’ll know for sure a year from now, or a year or two after that.

Nevertheless, it is hard to argue with Sweden’s death chart that tops the article. As a bonus, the piece reveals New York Times failures in reporting the Swedish experience. The juxtaposition is between Nature and artifice.
