Open Everything
The argument this story makes is a profound turnabout. Suddenly, a major liberal/progressive media outlet has embraced the premise that lockdowns/social distancing/masks should end and that Covid vaccination is no longer sufficiently effective to justify vaccination mandates.
I’m inclined to be cynical about this shift, blaming it on politics, not science. But, whatever.
Virginia’s Joe Manchin?
The Lawsuit by 7 school boards fighting Youngkin’s EO on optional masks in schools may be made moot by one Democrat listening to parents and doctors.
I’ve met with Sen Petersen while lobbying for menhaden regulation and firearms laws, and felt he was one who listened and spoke honestly even when we disagreed on the issues. Perhaps he will prove to be yet another Democrat who sees his party moving away from reality.
Shame on the GOP
Pilot GOP blocks repeal of Defense of Marriage Amendment.\
Though unenforceable, the Defense of Marriage Amendment remains a stain on the Virgina Constitution.
Opponents of repeal said they feared if it were repealed, it might open the door to polygamy. Guess what, among consenting adults, that’s none of your damn business either.
End the Subminimum Wage for Disabled Virginians
The issue at hand illustrates a basic problem with government meddling in markets. Here, because government wanted to establish a minimum wage, it then needed to establish a subminimum wage, lest its first dictate make disabled workers unemployable.

Speaking of “crickets.”
True Colors?
So, Youngkin has given an important role to a person who thinks a race-based twitter attack on a H.S. student is the way to respond to criticism. Oh, wait, it was not even criticism. Seems the teenager had the gall to retweet a news report from NPR that the Youngkin people thought was unflattering.
If that ugly attack tweet was “unauthorized” what has become of the staffer who did it?

Democrat hypocrisy on Gerrymandering
For all the wailing around here about Gerrymandering over the last year, it certainly has gotten quiet as Democrats have far outstripped GOP efforts to gain advantage.
Wealth is Knowledge

George Gilder is one of the most interesting economic philosophers of all time. I think of him as being 9/10ths right about anything he chooses to talk about, except that the 1/10th he leaves out is the part the rest of us want most to grasp and fully understand.

An excellent entertainment for a Sunday afternoon. Princeton history professor Stephen Kotkin responds to the following five questions:
- What does Xi Jinping believe and what does he want?
- What does Vladimir Putin believe and what does he want?
- Has technology changed the nature of warfare?
- Is the United States a “house divided” that cannot stand?
- Are there rational grounds for American patriotism?
