Jaw-dropping testimony in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial should end the case

Source: American Thinker.

On cross examination, a star prosecution witness validates the defense argument.

I’m almost inclined to predict that a not-guilty verdict is inevitable, but I am more concerned about the sham factor on display in this case. Some people complain that the rule of law is insufficient for achieving social justice, but in Rittenhouse social justice isn’t even at issue. Instead we are witnessing a pure breakdown in the rule of law itself.

The Rise of the Mises Caucus

Source: Bacon’s Rebellion.

As one who often shares Mises Institute articles here in the Forum, I’m fascinated by the prospect of a “Mises Caucus” in Virginia and national politics. From what I have seen the “Mises people” are the only political faction in America that actively seeks to educate the public on basic principles of economics. Republicans don’t try very hard to teach the economics they believe in, and Democrats don’t know enough economics to teach. So, we are fortunate that someone is making an effort.

My only caveat to approval of a Mises caucus would be that economics itself is changing beneath our feet. I wrote recently in the Forum, for example, that the laws of supply and demand are completely invalidated in light of current knowledge.

Something new will take the place of supply-and-demand theory in economics. Let us hope that the Austrian school libertarians have the agility to bring the new science to the public as they have done with the old.

Federal Court Blocks Biden Vaccine Mandate

Source: Frontpage mag.

This story is good news for those seeking sanity in our system of government.

Mandated Covid-19 vaccinations have never made a lick of sense as a public health policy. Sure, there is a theoretical argument to be made that public health concerns may at times override concern for liberty, but the practical argument that the Covid-19 pandemic is one of those times has never been strong. Moreover, with new therapeutics coming online (and old ones remaining viable), the need to rely singlemindedly on vaccination is weakening.

Thus, we can begin again to weigh liberty as a factor in shaping public policy. We need this focus because liberty is a core value of our national creed and founding. If we allow it to erode, we destroy ourselves.

Don’s LTE poses some interesting questions

“The balance struck between patriotism and national introspection should reflect the consensus of the community, not an educational elite.”

Why should those qualities be zero sum? Does studying our history, blemishes and all, dilute the love of country? if so, then are we encouraging patriotism at the expense of history?

“…values and ethics, both of which are taught by life, not professors.” And with regard to human sexuality, parents will have to bear the consequences if wrong.

By the time the offspring fledge, they better have some values and ethics in their human portfolio or society will pay the price…dearly. if so, then don’t we all have a strong vested interest in the outcome?

Brandolini’s Law

If this forum is good for anything, it is a demonstration of the validity of Brandolini’s Law.

Brandolini’s law, also known as the bullshit asymmetry principle, is an internet adage that emphasizes the difficulty of debunking false, facetious, or otherwise misleading information: “The amount of energy needed to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude larger than is needed to produce it.”

Recently, I have wasted my time and effort on responding to more than a little bullshit.

  1. That the economy suffered under Obama and Trump changed it for the better.
  2. That Obama had nothing to do with the 2009-2010 recovery.
  3. That Covid vaccines are secret poisons.
  4. That Billionaires are secretly trying to kill everyone with Covid vaccines so that . . .
  5. They will have easier access to “beautiful concubines” (somehow immune to the poison)
  6. That FIVE years in jail was justified for a voting mistake.
  7. That stories of Ms. Mason and young Mr. Youngkin are not in any way related
  8. That tax breaks to support journalists (mostly conservative) is an assault on Liberty and
  9. part of a master plan to create the equivalent of Pravda.
  10. Imaginary and debunked bathroom failures by President Biden.

If you see a lot less of me posting, this is the reason why. It is truly a waste of effort.
