Corporations and the Social Contract

Vox Day makes an interesting observation concerning the application of Constitutional provisions to private companies:

The self-appointed defenders of capitalism very much want you to ignore the fact that every single corporation is a government creation. And as such, not only should they not enjoy the Constitutional protections of the rights possessed by individuals who are posterity of the Founders, they should be subject to the same limits that are imposed on the government.

Put another way, corporations exist because government charters them. Accordingly, corporations cannot behave in ways that government is not permitted to behave.

I rather like Day’s point, although I have only just begun to think about it. Perhaps there is an error I haven’t yet recognized.

Long lines at Russia’s ATMs as bank run begins

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/02/28/long-lines-at-russias-atms-as-bank-run-begins-ruble-hit-by-sanctions.html

“This is a full-fledged bank run that’s already underway,” Maximilian Hess, a Russian economy expert and fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, told CNBC.

The Russian people are about to have all of their savings converted into “war bonds” that won’t be available until “after the war.” That’s pretty interesting considering they’ve also been told the country isn’t at war.

PM David Zweig Suppression of dissent

The CDC met with Twitter and other tech firms to manage information about COVID. During Trump’s time in office, it was primarily to provide accurate information and to discourage runs on scarce supplies in grocery stores. But when Biden’s team came in, the emphasis turned to censoring contrary opinion, including that of legitimate experts and quotations of CDC website material that did not support the narrative.

Many of the suppressed opinions have proven to be true.

The previous Twitter executives took the White House directives eagerly as they were in line with their own biases.

A Christmas Message for the Ages

“Merry Christmas to EVERYONE, including the Radical Left Marxists that are trying to destroy our Country, the Federal Bureau of Investigation that is illegally coercing & paying Social and Lame Stream Media to push for a mentally disabled Democrat over the Brilliant, Clairvoyant, and USA LOVING Donald J. Why Sexual Morality May be Far More Important than You Ever Thought

Source: Quest with Kirk Durston.

The blogger explores the work of Cambridge anthropologist J.D. Unwin, specifically Sex and Culture (1934). Unwin studied 80 primitive tribes and six known civilizations through 5,000 years of history. He claimed there is a positive correlation between the cultural achievement of a people and the sexual restraint they observe (Wikipedia).

A causal relationship between chastity and the success of cultures remains (I think) to be established, yet Unwin’s correlations are compelling. The blogger lists a few:

The Gay World War? Inside Putin’s warped reality

Here, John. I’ll save you the trouble of posting Putin’s next level of propaganda. Here’s what’s getting preached to the Russian people:

“It’s not against Ukraine the Russian army is fighting. It’s against a New World Order of Bilderberg and Davos elites trying to genetically engineer a subservient humanity with gay marriages in the West and killer viruses in the rest of the world. With Rockefellers, Dulles brothers and WHO thrown into the mix.”

“We didn’t invade Ukraine for a political land grab! We did it to save the world, you ungrateful morons!”

It is QAnon on steroids.

And, speaking of QAnon, here’s your too-invincible-to-loose Russian military:

Russia has one aircraft carrier. And it’s on fine… again.

Finally, something we can all agree on.

Hopefully not paywalled. Max Boot was a pretty ardent conservative, and still is. The premise is interesting and is also taking the long view.

A pertinent quote:

“But it is striking just how much Biden’s general approach echoes that of Truman, and his successor Dwight D. Eisenhower, who responded to a world in crisis reminiscent of our own by building and maintaining alliances with like-minded countries to contain authoritarian aggressors without risking World War III.”
