Why Is The United States Bombing Kiev?

Source: A Son of the New American Revolution.

Curiosities occur in war. Some may recall that Iran captured at U.S. drone back in 2011 during the Obama administration. The capture was significant for at least two technical reasons: (1) the advanced surveillance technology the unmanned aircraft carried, and (2) the airframe’s stealthy flying-wing design.

The U.S. Isn’t Ready to Face China on the Battlefield

Source: Wall Street Journal (free link).

The writer warns that the U.S. military industrial complex is not prepared to either deter or conduct a major war. The basic problem is that our weapons and ammunition are in short supply and our industry cannot produce the inventories we will need.

The warning sounds valid to me, but I wonder if the message will sink in where it should.

For me it is shocking to realize that my country — once the military-industrial wonder of the world — can’t even provide sustainment for a dinky little war like the one in Ukraine.

Why Social Media Companies Moderate Users’ Posts

https://www.axios.com/2022/10/17/twitter-kanye-trump-elon-musk-bans-content

First of all, social media companies moderate users’ posts to stay within the law. Child pornography and snuff videos are just a couple of examples of why they have to do it.

Beyond that, they have to consider public safety. It may be legal to post videos on how to poison your wife and get away with it, but it’s not something many advertisers are going to want to associate with. If they’re going to keep their advertisers, they’re going to need to stay within certain social norms.

And “social norms” is wherein the problem lies.

Conservatives say they are censored more than liberals. And that is true. But, for conservatives, social norms have changed. Today, Eisenhower would be considered a “libtard.” Today’s conservatives see nothing wrong with chanting “hang the Vice President.” Lying about winning an election is normal. If you lose, just deny it and destroy the Capitol if you can’t get your way. The peaceful exchange of power, the one thing that had always set America apart from other countries, is, for conservatives, no longer a “social norm.”

So, are Twitter and Facebook wrong for banning people like Trump and the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys for violating social norms when they have none? If Oath Keepers and Proud Boys can’t be banned, can Al Qaeda and BLM? Can ISIS openly recruit terrorists on Twitter? Can Trump?

Ho Hum. Another Trump Fraud is Coming to Light.

In a nutshell, yet another Trump venture sinks into chaos and fraud. This time it is the Trump Media and Technology Group, the parent of Truth Social, that has got itself into hot water with the Securities and Exchange Commission as a result of a whistleblower complaint of fraudulent misrepresentations in the fund raising process.

One tidbit that has come out is that at one point Trump demanded that one of the early senior executives, Andy Litinsky, simply give his equity position to Melania Trump. Litinsky demurred so Trump told him that he would “blow up” the company if he refused. Litinsky still refused and was later summarily removed from his position. He will be seeking redress in court.
