“But That Newspaper Is Dead”

Source: The Unz Review.

You may be surprised to learn that “A few days ago, the UN Security Council held hearings on the accusations by Seymour Hersh that the Biden Administration had illegally destroyed Europe’s $30 billion Nord Stream pipelines.” Jeffery Sachs and Ray McGovern gave testimony.

Tidewater Forum had a post on the Hersh story earlier this month:

Dilbert Cancelled

Dilbert Cancelled after comments on race

This is the episode in question

What he said, in response to a poll that claims that almost half of Blacks asserted that it is not OK to be white, is that makes Blacks a Hate Group and that considering the number of White people being beaten by Blacks simply for being White the besrt thing for White people to do is to stay away from Blacks, and stop trying to help. That there was no way for White people to fix the problem and that it was a problem for Blacks to fix themselves.

The response from media has been withering and his comic strip has been cancelled by hundreds of newspapers.

But none of his critics has been able to say where, in context, he is wrong.

Electric Grid Reliability at Risk by 2030, PJM Says

Source: Bacon’s Rebellion.

Intermittence is the deadliest sin of electrical generation from renewable energy sources. Thankfully, Virginia’s electricity provider is aware of the risks and is telling us about them:

  • The growth rate of electricity demand is likely to continue to increase from electrification coupled with the proliferation of high-demand data centers in the region.
  • Thermal generators are retiring at a rapid pace due to government and private sector policies as well as economics.
  • Retirements are at risk of outpacing the construction of new resources, due to a combination of industry forces, including siting and supply chain, whose long-term impacts are not fully known.
  • PJM’s interconnection queue is composed primarily of intermittent and limited-duration resources. Given the operating characteristics of these resources, we need multiple megawatts of these resources to replace 1 MW of thermal generation.

The last bullet is the one that best illustrates the folly of trying to produce civilization-grade electricity from wind and solar technology. It _can_ be done, technically speaking, but not in any optimal way.

A “Day of Hate” declared for this Saturday

“Authorities in New York and Chicago warn Jewish communities to stay alert after neo-Nazi groups declare ‘Day of Hate'”

These are not “liberals.” These are not “woke” people. These are the people who marched arm in arm with the people carrying Confederate flags and Trump flags on January 6. These people are the conservative base, the people without whom conservatives cannot win elections.

Will Saturday be another day of mass shootings? Probably not. Police will be on high alert Saturday. No, this Saturday will just plant the seeds for the next time.

Want to get serious about stopping mass shootings? Here’s another good place to start. Conservatives could dial back the hate. But I’m not going to hold my breath waiting for Trump or DeSantis or MTG or Boebert or anybody else on the right to stand up and condemn these “good people.” They can’t. This is their base. These are their people.

China’s Position on the Political Settlement of the Ukraine Crisis

Yesterday I shared a Chinese position paper, “US Hegemony and Its Perils,” published by the MFA just a few days prior. Today, another MFA statement, this one published on the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Not to be outdone . . .

By the race-pandering governor of Florida, wannabe GOP Presidential nominee Governor Glen Youngkin has decided that Virginia needs to review the College Board AP African-American History course to be sure it does not include “divisive concepts.” God forbid that a college level course should cover “divisive concepts!”

Let’s agree that our governor is a savvy politician who knows what he must do to advance his career within the MAGA-Republican party. That he jumps on this particular bandwagon says as much about the state of the GOP as it does about Youngkin.

US Hegemony and Its Perils

Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.

Most of us most of the time don’t want to see ourselves as others see us. But we should try.

Below are the Introduction and the Conclusion of a long paper written by China that criticizes the United States. I imagine that many Americans don’t want to hear about China’s view of our nation, but shame on them that don’t want to hear it. What’s important is that the 2/3s of the world that doesn’t pledge allegiance to the U.S. may find China’s message compelling.
