Whoopsie: NIH Finds Ivermectin Works
_Ivermectin used early works, who’d a thunk
“Moderate-certainty evidence finds that large reductions in COVID-19 deaths are possible using ivermectin. Using ivermectin early in the clinical course may reduce numbers progressing to severe disease. The apparent safety and low cost suggest that ivermectin is likely to have a significant impact on the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic globally.”
Not a miracle cure, not a magic bullet, but significantly better than no treatment, cheap, and very low in risk.
So, how much blood on the hands of the FDA this time?
Full on Nazis now
Democrats block funding for Israel’s missile defense.
Well, there’s the final piece, virulent, unreasoning anti-Semitism. House Democrats now oppose anything connected to Israel.
The Iron Dome missile defense is purely defensive. Its presence and effectiveness allows Israel to moderate its response to the thousands of rockets fired at Israeli civilians. Make no mistake, were it not there, Israel would flatten Gaza and Palestinian settlements on the West Bank, and rightly so.
For the US, it is one of the few bargains we get in foreign aid. The real world testing of missile defense systems would cost us far more to simulate. What we learn is worth many times the cost.
But it saves Israeli lives, so the Democrats could not allow it. No doubt they are practicing their goose step for the parades.
Breaking with tradition, the FDA makes a rational decision
Boosters for those who need them not those who vote right
Finally, the FDA makes a decision that fits the data.
There simply is no data to support rushing boosters for 16 year olds. It makes more sense to wait and update the boosters to reflect variants for those whose resistance has not started to wane.
Democrats plot the end of medical progress
WSJ: the results of the Democrat plan to control prices
Highly financially risky projects require a high rate of return, or they just don’t get done.
As the article points out, were this plan in effect a decade ago, there would be no Moderna, or mRNA vaccines.
But that’s OK, if you believe that today’s level of medical treatment is all we’ll ever need.
We should be very grateful that COVID came along before Democrats were in control.
The real coup attempt

Omega Protein continues to trash the Bay, with Northam’s protection
Almost 300,000 of illegally dumped fish on beaches
This time it’s a net torn on an old anchor, but purse seines aren’t supposed to be used in water shallow enough to drag bottom. But it’s always something. The basic problem is that the Feds set a quota on menhaden for the entire east coast, Florida to Maine, but Omega takes nearly all of it in or immediately in front of, the Chesapeake Bay. The species as a whole is not overfished, but that part that uses the Bay is grossly overharvested. The Feds set a quota for the Bay portion, but it’s left to the State to enforce it, and it doesn’t.
Menhaden are directly regulated by the Democrat controlled legislature and Governor, the only species not regulated by professionals. Omega has bought the support of the AFL-CIO and the NAACP, and Democrats will not touch them.
So, for a party that’s willing to crush our economy over 1/4 inch of sea level rise in 100 years it seems strange they won’t do a damned thing about an issue right here under their control that has a far larger impact on Virginia.

Emails show CDC bowed to NEA on masks and mandates
We keep hearing we must follow the science on school safety, so who is the authority we rely on the determine what the science tells us? The National Institute of Health? The AMA? The CDC? Even the FDA?
Nope. the teacher’s union. The CDC changed its recommendations after being criticized by the NEA. Continue reading “Follow the science??”

If Ida known, Ida made other choices.
The last couple of weeks have been difficult, more for my wife than me. After putting off a trip to see family for over a year, she went to Louisiana for a 1 week visit on the 16th. It should have been safe enough, she is vaccinated and supposedly so were her brother and his wife, though actually, they only had the first shot.
Naturally, the day she arrived, her brother fell ill. 2 days later, my wife has breakthrough infection. Minor symptoms, but can’t travel for 10 days. So, 10 days after her positive test, Ida strikes Lafourche Parrish dead on. New Orleans airport remains closed. Stuck there another 4 days. Fortunately most people there have natural gas generators, but water pressure is very low, roads are dangerous, and stores and gas stations are empty. There is a dusk to dawn curfew.
Fortunately, my son was vacationing in Tennessee and made a side trip to pick her up and take her to an open airport in Alabama. She is boarding her flight home as I write this.
What a vacation.
16 years ago she was there for Katrina.
