Trump is giving away $8 Billion of our money in a desperate attempt to buy the votes of seniors who – compared to 2016 – have largely abandoned him. Congress has not appropriated funds for this boondoggle so it is unclear on what authority this is being done. Thank God Obama never stole taxpayer money like this. I think this explains Mr. Trump’s pitiful attempt to look strong and resolute on the White House portico as he defiantly removed his mask and struck a defiant pose. Of course, the effect was ruined by the fact that he was very visibly fighting for every breath.

I think that defiant gesture is not playing the way he hopes. When he removed that mask and then entered the residence a lot of people saw a self-centered, science-denying jerk endangering the people around him. That is NOT a good look. IMHO.

If this story is blocked, the essence of it is that the virus is mainly transmitted by droplets coming directly from a carrier’s coughs, sneezes or just their exhalations. Six feet of separation allows gravity to pull those droplets to the ground. BUT, in a closed indoor space, the virus can also ride on an aerosol – extremely tiny droplets that can float in the air for minutes or even hours. Hundreds or thousands of people not wearing masks and cheering wildly can generate such a miasma. This may be how Trump got infected in spite of otherwise stringent precautions.

This encyclical letter leaves no doubt how Catholics should vote in the coming election. If they truly believe that God inspires the choice of the person that best represents the moral teachings of the Church to be Pope. If they do not believe that, then are they actually Catholics?
