Bored? These Americans are teaching their dogs to talk

I have a theory that animals (and possibly plants) have language ability that is essentially the same as the one humans have. Based on the undergraduate classes I took in college, virtually all linguists disagree with me, but that’s OK. I began thinking up my theory because I disagreed with them, at least in some of their starting assumptions.

So I find this story fascinating. Pet owners around the world who are contributing to the They Can Talk project may begin to find evidence to support my view that language itself exists as a feature of the natural world that exists outside the organism.

Liberal conspiracy theorists may find this curious story alarming, because — according to the Trump-equals-Hitler narrative — the reported move looks like preparation for domestic martial law.

Whatever the deep and true reasons for the policy change, I’m glad for anything which constrains CIA operations. The agency should have been dissolved a long time ago (think Bay of Pigs, MKULTRA and Project Mockingbird).

Supporting the 2020 U.S. election

There are those who say that censorship by private enterprises is both legally and morally acceptable. I certainly agree with that within limits. For example, I certainly agree it is legally and morally acceptable for YouTube to censor child pornography.

But I don’t agree that it is acceptable in any way for YouTube to censor content “that misleads people by alleging that widespread fraud or errors changed the outcome of the 2020 U.S. Presidential election,” as its new policy statement announces.

A Pond In a Cow Pasture

Whatever the “official” results turn out to be, the 2020 presidential election will forever be perceived as tainted, like a pond in a cow pasture. The reasons are cultural, as described in the video. Because of that, the taint will be remembered and regurgitated for years to come.

Voter Integrity Project: Findings and Conclusions

Matt Braynard concludes that it is impossible to know who won the 2020 presidential election. He also makes specific technical recommendations for improving election integrity.

Some are using this video to “prove” that election fraud was rampant, but the evidence Braynard musters in the video does not lead to that finding. Instead, his evidence shows that the true election results are unknown and unknowable.

We should fix that.

You can’t say there is no evidence of election fraud. This video shows exactly how it is done.

The thing to grasp is that the process corrupts the paper record of the vote such that a recount will produce the same fraudulent results as the initial tally.

Note, too, that because the tabulation is done electronically the results can be monitored in real or near-real time. This creates the opportunity to scale the fraud so as to avoid the risk of detection.
