The Founders knew that an informed citizenry is critical to the success of our democracy. First Amendment and a constitutionally mandated Post Office are evidence. That about 1/3rd of our country gets their news from social media is amazing. Also Republicans don’t even trust the WSJ (only 27% do, the same as Alex Jones trust among Republicans). Conspiracies flourish when trust is gone. The founders knew that, we don’t.

Putin and the Christian Nationalists.
Today’s Pilot ran this editorial by the dean and professor of psychology and religion at Union Theological Seminary. I posted it because it sheds some light on why Putin, and Trump for that matter, have so many apologists and supporters in the US and the West.
Another view of the Ukraine invasion worth reading.
Aside from some scholarly insight into Putin, his viewpoint, and the West’s reaction, there are very interesting historical perspectives. Since we have some pretty strong opinions here, lets see what a historian has to offer.
Jane Fonda was labeled a traitor for providing propaganda footage to Hanoi.
So now we had top Republican leaders doing the same and it was ok?
“As Russian forces invade Ukraine, Russian TV features Donald Trump, Mike Pompeo and Tucker Carlson praising Putin.” Cheney Tweet.

Ukrainian people giving all they have against the ”genius”.
Great reporting by WSJ. If these volunteers were like our “militias”, the invasion would have been a cakewalk. So far, the Russians have paid a heavy price and I suspect there will be more to come. Especially since Russians are targeting apartments and medical centers. Even Russian infiltrators are being ID’d and killed. And Germany has shifted position and will send arms and aid. As has Finland.
Americans don’t seem to agree with right wing book and subject banning.
Maybe Don’s oft repeated caveat from Napoleon applies here. Let the GOP keep pushing bans of books and cirricula as their only plank and see how Americans react.

“…that’s wonderful…”
“I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, ‘This is genius.’ Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine — of Ukraine. Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful,” Trump said.
We are sending thousands of troops into potential war against Russia. Should the most prominent Republican be praising Putin while at the same time the Red Party (GOP so as not to confuse too easily with the other ”Reds”, although it seems it is hard to distinguish) calling our President the ”sign of weakness”.
“… I knew Putin very well,…” I’ll bet he did, and still does I would think.
“He liked me. I liked him. I mean, you know, he’s a tough cookie, got a lot of great charm and a lot of pride,” Trump said. “And he loves his country, you know? He loves his country.” So does our ex-president it seems.
Why don’t billionaire team owners pay for stadiums? Here’s one reason:
If the deals are so good, why don’t the franchises pay? Because politicians fall all over themselves to subsidize billionaire owners and millionaire players at our expense? What is next, SNAP for Snyder, Medicaid for quarterbacks. Insanity definition fits nicely when it comes to stadiums and taxpayers.
Editorial by Cheney offered without comment
A threat of violence if charged in fraud and election cases.
“If these radical, vicious racist prosecutors do anything wrong or illegal, I hope we are going to have in this country the biggest protest we have ever had … in Washington, D.C., in New York, in Atlanta, and elsewhere because our country and our elections are corrupt.” DJT
“Wrong or illegal”? Who decides what is illegal? The man who thought Pence could throw the election? And “wrong”? The man who threatened state election officials to also throw an election?
“Racist prosecutors”? No subtle dog whistles needed anymore. “European chauvinists” unite.
Our ex-president is going all in on mob violence to protect himself from the Rule of Law. “Stand by” was for real when said and real today. The GOP is censuring the wrong folks, that is pretty obvious. Exceptionalism is on the line, in my opinion.
