Our government can mandate vaccination by law. Will we is another question.

“…the liberty secured by the Constitution of the United States to every person within its jurisdiction does not import an absolute right in each person to be, at all times and in all circumstances, wholly freed from restraint.” Real “liberty for all could not exist under the operation of a principle which recognizes the right of each individual person to use his own, whether in respect of his person or his property, regardless of the injury that may be done to others.” Justice Harlan’s decision is still the law of the land.” Jacobson v. Massachusetts (1905)

I did not know it was a long ago decided case (smallpox inoculation) and apparently not overturned or legislated otherwise. Of course the political firestorm may be enough to forestall such action.

Where do students learn to do these “slave trade” postings?

Essentially, High Schoolers held another “slave trade” online targeting the handful of black students in Traverse, MI. So if there is no systemic racism, who thought this was a good idea and where did it come from? This is not new, other schools around the country have had the same problem.

Hospitals are filling up with unvaccinated, younger and sicker.

Elective procedures in Florida back on hold…again. We are apparently slow learners. Now a few Republicans are panicking and starting to push vaccination despite anti-vaccines efforts from many in the last months. This report is a bit of a wake up call to the faithful. And losing voters too.

AZ audit and State Senate considering door to door questioning of voters.

Now it’s is really a case of jack-booted state thugs demanding answers about how people voted. Welcome to what a right wing “Amerika” would look like.

And the right wing nuts are getting wadded up panties over bringing vaccines to the people. The phony Cawthorn is spreading lies about people losing guns and Bibles to the local volunteers trying so hard to save lives. What would he say about demanding voter information?

Maybe the partisan divide is solvable after all.

South and parts of West for Republicans, Northeast and West Coast for Democrats. Midwest a bit tricky, but doable. Make it amicable, establish trade deals, border controls and see what happens.

A fly in the oil could be global warming and drought. Louisiana might be a tough place to live in 50 years from sea rise and tropical diseases. Arizona could be uninhabitable from heat and lack of water. But those folks won’t have Biden to kick around anymore.

One twist is that as climate change heats up, droughts turn to desertification, the new nation may send refugees to the North. Will they be accepted at the border?

The future of home building is…3D printing?

Dutch technology strikes again. I think we rejected their expertise for engineering flood abatement after Katrina. (What do they know about flooding, eh?) This seems like it might catch on. Will construction workers join coal miners? Truck drivers?

Technology replaces labor regularly. Wages have little to do with that since most robotics will be less costly than even low wages. Probably even slaves since you do have feed them and rest them every now and then. Perhaps we need to consider an economy with much fewer jobs and how people will feed, clothe, educate themselves and stay healthy without the standard of compensation for labor.

Think about that class of 2025 when you make career choices.

Texas man held on $100,000 bail because he may have violated voting law.

Remember the million dollar bet to expose voter fraud by Texas guv? Exposed 3 in PA and OH, all Republicans who knowingly and with plenty of forethought voted for their dead relatives. Long dead in some cases. The OH man was a Republican operative to boot. They all got a small fine and one spent 3 days in jail. All of those were planned fraud.

The Texas man was a few weeks from ending 14 years of parole when he voted in a primary. Waited 6 hours, then headed to one of his two jobs at 1:30 in the morning. More of a clerical glitch on his part. And his arrest was 1 1/2 years after his primary vote. Paxton wants to make an example of this Black man. Republicans are sure desperate and will screw this man just because.

Oh, Abbot reneged on the payoff. Why?

If mental illness were treated like cancer we would not be jailing the sick.

Depending upon which study, there is a shameful amount of mentally ill and addicted Americans in jails and prisons. A lot of the problems with police is regarding mentally ill people. At some point, perhaps we can recognize that mental illness can be as debilitating and deadly as any other serious disease. Until then, it is “lock ‘em up and forget ‘em”.
