Covid Is Not Categorically Different
Source: American Institute for Economic Research.
I sometimes use the term category error to describe other people’s reasoning (I’m sure I’m just as guilty of the same kind of mistake). I like this essay because it describes a classic instance of category error in operation as it relates to a topic of the day.

I am confirmed in my contention, stated on several occasions, that Virginia is becoming California. Curiouser and curiouser.
The Plot to Nab Northam
“Self-styled ‘militia’ members based in Michigan accused of plotting to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer also considered nabbing Ralph Northam, Virginia’s governor, according to court testimony Tuesday.”
I suspect Virginia would never have become a blip on the Michigan crazies’ radar, except for the national attention our gun control debates received on Lobby Day back in January.
CDC Study Finds Overwhelming Majority Of People Getting Coronavirus Wore Masks
Tucker Carlson had a segment on this CDC study Tuesday night. The segment followed The Federalist narrative linked above fairly closely, right down to including Dr. Redfield’s goofy video clip claiming that face masks are better than vaccines in preventing the spread of Covid-19.
The base claim of the story is that most people in the study who got sick with Covid-19 were people who “always” wore masks (more than 70%). You might assume that these results are evidence that masks don’t work. But that’s not quite right.

Dr. Joondeph persists in his effort to bring perspective to understanding the Covid-19 pandemic. At issue are the definition of Covid cases as media use the term and the scope of testing in the U.S.
When the history of this pandemic is written, I believe the federal response will be described as technically consistent with “the science,” whereas the social and political responses will be described as inflamed.
Biden-Harris joint appearance in Arizona draws no spectators — as in ZERO attendees
It is tempting to read this story as predictive somehow, but in fairness to Biden-Harris supporters, there aren’t a whole lot of tea leaves in it. It’s just one of those things that makes you go, “Hmmmmm!”
WHO Flip-Flops: Urges World Leaders To Stop Using Lockdowns To Fight COVID Contagion
Flip flops can be a good thing. This one appears to be.
Putin Trolls Biden: Communists & Dems Share ‘Common Values’ While Trump Record Hard On Russia
Putin says a number of remarkable things in this report of his interview with Rossiya 1 TV, but they all amount to a clear endorsement of Joe Biden for president.
This raises the question: If Biden wins, should we appoint a Special Council to investigate Russian interference in our election and possible collusion between the Biden campaign and the Kremlin?
BLM Supporter Tied to Michigan Gov. Whitmer Kidnapping Plot. Demands Grow for Her to Apologize to Trump
One way to think about this story is to note that we live in a “post-ideological age.” That is, the ideas we believe in don’t necessarily define our loyalties.
This isn’t necessarily a good thing. It might be easier, for example, if all people of a certain hair color or stature could be counted on to think the same way. As it is, we have to look past superficialities to know the ideas and values of the people who affect our lives.
