  1. How can any decent educated person take seriously the writing of someone who refers to the coronavirus as the “Chinese Communist Party (CCP) virus?” This writer uses that racist formulation as does his principle source at another scurrilous web site.

Answer, they can’t. If there are bits of factual matter embedded somewhere in the muck, it is not worth the effort to sort through it to find them. If you can cite actual evidence that the WHO has CHANGED its guidance on fighting the pandemic, then please do so. That would be interesting.

The sources are cited in the piece.

  2. One scurrilous site using another scurrilous site as a source is not reliable evidence.

The video of the WHO spokesman provided ZERO evidence to support the main thrust of the story – that WHO has CHANGED its guidance – does not support that claim. Furthermore, it is clear from the context that the spokesman was using “lockdown” to refer primarily to closing borders and not to internal measures of social distancing and mask wearing. He was speaking in response to a suggestion that “lockdowns” are “nationalistic. And, ignored by the polemicists, he reasserted that the role of “lockdowns” is to buy time and that has been the WHO position right along.

One does not need to go to rightwing propaganda sites to find out what the recommendations of the WHO are. They have a full-throated communications operation and will make available any major changes should they occur.

For example, apparently moved by the dangerous misinformation about the virus spread by political leaders they have released this statement about how countries should resist dangerous liars. . .

The video isn’t the whole article, which says elsewhere, “With few exceptions, world leaders followed in the footsteps of the Chinese communist regime when responding to the outbreak of the virus, imposing unprecedented lockdowns.”

I’d say it is fair to describe the WHO’s statement as a change of course.

Say what you want, that is not evidence. Even in the clip provided by your link, the spokesman reaffirms the role of “lockdowns” to buy time when time is needed. When there is no vaccine, not enough ICU beds, not enough medicines, no certain therapy, caseloads exploding, etc. Time needs to be bought.

If you want to claim a “change of course” by WHO provide a link to the guidance that has been changed and the document changing it. If you can’t, we are discussing nothing but further attempts by “conservatives” to downplay the pandemic – just like Dear Leader does in between coughs and wheezes.

I have claimed that the article is justified in describing the WHO’s statement as a change of course for would leaders.

Yes. The WHO is saying that lockdowns are no longer needed for that purpose, whereas previously they were.

You are welcome to research WHO’s prior guidance on the subject to show us how it hasn’t changed, if it means that much to you. The point of the story remains: WHO has joined with other elements of the scientific community in withdrawing support for lockdown policies.

        1. Laughable. The WHO maintains a robust web site with their guidance on a lot of different health issues. There have been no changes. No revisions. Period. If it floats your boat to pretend there has been, then go for it. It will all be moot in just a few more weeks and the new administration will pay attention to the science and not to science-denying ideologues.

  3. Not surprisingly, the WHO is making it clear that their guidance on controlling the pandemic has NOT changed. Why? Because their guidance has not changed. The story from Zerohedge is simply Trump propaganda bullshit based, according to the “source” on his comments being taken out of context. And, Trump claiming that they are now saying he was “right” all along is just another con man lie. Ho hum.
