Leadership lesson from 1863

Rabbi Genack provides a great lesson for our leaders today.

“True leadership is demonstrated by the humility to admit your own mistakes, the graciousness to thank those with whom you disagree when they turn out to be right, and the compassion to refrain from criticizing subordinates when their errors, even though serious, were the result of mitigating circumstances. Would that our leaders take Lincoln’s example to heart and mold their method of governing in the image of his noble stewardship.” (Italics added)

Something to consider the next time praise is heaped on President Trump… BY President Trump.

Dr. Tabor has an excellent letter published in today’s VP titled “Masks for the economy”. It reiterates his stance made here several times on the wearing of masks. (Still dislike the fact we can no longer link to individual letters.)

Here is also a report from The Week concerning the ways to convince people to wear masks, not just for the economy, but for the overall health and well being of our citizenry. https://theweek.com/speedreads/923057/ordering-asking-shaming-whats-best-way-americans-wear-face-masks

Some say shaming is not the best way to do this. But maybe, sometimes, it is necessary because asking doesn’t work and no one really likes being told what to do.

Like a petulant child, Mr. Trump demands new babysitters

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/503413-trump-calls-for-new-justices-on-supreme-court-after-unfavorable

He was gifted one appointment when Mitch McConnell refused to do his duty in allowing hearings for Obama’s replacement for the departed Antonin Scalia. He was gifted another, not by death, but retirement of a justice.

There must be something about it.

No one is happy about Bolton’s book. Both sides of the political divide are upset about one aspect or another. Must be dead on if everyone is PO’ed.

But out of all the outrage from the administration, notice how there is little denial about the veracity of the individual claims. Just a general “he’s a liar”.

There’s a vaccine for that?

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/503042-trump-uses-aids-vaccine-as-proof-scientists-can-develop-covid-19

Mr. Trump touts the development of an AIDS vaccine as proof that a vaccine for COVID-19 can be had by the end of the year. Ummmm.

“An AIDS vaccine does not yet exist. “

Let’s be honest we ALL want a vaccine developed that will effectively prevent contracting the Novel Coronavirus. We want it to be safe and effective. We want it as quickly as possible.

What we don’t need is fake cheerleading from the Oval Office and touting things that don’t exist as proof that good things are coming. We know the vaccine is being developed. Could be before the end of the year or early next. Operation WARP SPEED will go as fast as the science allows.

Did I miss something?

https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/502985-iowa-governor-to-sign-executive-order-restoring-felon-voting-rights

According to this story, Iowa “is the sole remaining state that requires felons to apply individually to the governor’s office to have their voting rights restored.” McCauliffe tried to do that here, but the GOP sued and the Supreme Court overturned the EO. Was the law passed during the last session that changed things in VA?

I know I could probably look it up, but wanted to generate conversation as well as let my more learned brothers and sisters here fill me in.
