Dilbert Cancelled

Dilbert Cancelled after comments on race

This is the episode in question

What he said, in response to a poll that claims that almost half of Blacks asserted that it is not OK to be white, is that makes Blacks a Hate Group and that considering the number of White people being beaten by Blacks simply for being White the besrt thing for White people to do is to stay away from Blacks, and stop trying to help. That there was no way for White people to fix the problem and that it was a problem for Blacks to fix themselves.

The response from media has been withering and his comic strip has been cancelled by hundreds of newspapers.

But none of his critics has been able to say where, in context, he is wrong.

Big Green

Robert Bryce Big Money on Climate Policy

We constantly hear that politicians are in the pocket of “Big Oil” but it turns out it is the other way around.  Political spending on Energy policy by Big Green is more than four times that spent by Fossil Fuel/Nuclear advocates.

That comes from a mix of those cynically cashing in on wind and solar manufacture, utilities hungry for subsidy dollars, and a caste of American and European Oligarchs who fly around in private jets unconcerned with the impact of $5 gas and expensive food and electricity for the serfs.

So, in this David and Goliath battle, it turns out that Exxon is David.

What Could Go Wrong?

WSJ Geoengineering

A lot.

First, setting loose a process to remove CO2 could get away from us. If CO2 drops below 300ppm, agriculture could not support more than about half of us. Get it below 200ppm and everything dies. We have a much wider margin for error for higher CO2 than lower.

But just as bad, screwing around with albedo has even narrower margins, and we’re overdue for another glaciation anyway.

It is foolish to turn on any large scale tweaking of  albedo that we can’t quickly turn off, because that is a positive feedback loop that has existed in the past, and it ends with 2 miles of ice over Detroit.

But, but, it’s the guns

Michigan State shooter should have been in prison

Once again, someone who should have been prosecuted, wasn’t, and goes on to do great harm.

Maybe use the laws we have before making new ones that only make it harder for the victims to defend themselves.

The latest study shows that 97.8% of mass shootings occur in places where citizens are not allowed to be armed.

Maybe disarming good people while letting bad people roam free no matter what they do isn’t the best approach.
