I would love to believe that Ukraine is a victim state, a freedom loving democracy whose sovereignty and sacred honor have been impugned by a war-crazed tyrannical nation. But I can’t.

Were it not for U.S./NATO meddling, Ukraine and Russia could have resolved their differences long ago. And were it not for U.S./NATO support, Ukraine would not now be fighting a grinding battle it cannot win.

I get the impulse of good-hearted people who want to stand up for Ukraine. I even get wanting to call Russia an Evil Empire.

What I don’t get is people who want to stand up for Ukraine until every Ukrainian is dead or raped. And I don’t get being willing to endure the consequences to our own people and to our friends that must occur when we act with hatred toward a peer nation.

Eschew the MSM propaganda. End the war in Ukraine.

While I agree with the substance of this item, what interests me most is its portrayal of the intersection between thoughtless assumption and strict due process.

Some have alleged that the facilities at Mar-a-Lago were inadequate for the storage of classified information. None of the formal reporting I’ve seen has made that claim, but I was curious to find out what the storage requirements might have been.

Russia continues to expand its footprint in Ukraine, relentlessly accomplishing its goal of “demilitarizing” the country. Two items of particular note in the current SITREP are:

• Ukrainian propaganda boasting of a major counteroffensive is debunked.
• Amnesty International accused the Ukrainian military of war crimes.

Several SITREP analysts I’ve been following have stopped publishing their reports because, in their view, Ukraine has already lost the war. My own view is that the final outcome of military engagements is always in doubt until it isn’t.

I believe Ukraine should stop fighting and concede to any territorial demands Russia might make. The reason is simple: Ukraine can lose territory at the expense of many lives, or it can lose territory without incurring the death of Ukrainian men, women and children.

Turley makes an important observation: The Constitutional requirements for being elected President are such that even a convicted criminal may be legally elected to the office. Counterintuitive as the observation may be, I think it is both profound and essential to our concept of liberty.
