I’m not particularly worried about the weaponization of space. It is inevitable for the same reasons the weaponization of the seas occurred during the Age of Exploration. The consequences will likely be roughly the same, as well: the emergence of transformative technologies and vast wealth with relatively little actual warfare in the new domain itself.
Thus, I share the link for the encouraging news it represents.
I came across a curious speculation earlier today that Joe Biden’s only purpose in running for president may have been to establish the pretext for Trump’s impeachment. There is, of course, no good reason to believe such a thing at this point.
No good reason at all. Nope. Also, Lunch-bucket Joe is way too smart to have been set up. There is zero evidence — nada, zip — that he might be feeble-minded.
Tidewater Forum may have been the first to break this story, since we had a post yesterday asking the question, “Did Nancy Pelosi break the law?” Now it appears the question will be formally addressed.
The Virginan-Pilot is downsizing. Major media are echoing away into irrelevance. It would seem we are the news.
The writer of the link makes a constitutional point that is in some ways remedial. That is, many people believe, wrongly, that it is a founding principle of our country that human rights are given by government.
The idea that rights pre-exist government or the Constitution strikes such people as unfathomable. When challenged, they are likely to say that human rights are limited, especially that society at large has superceding interests that must constrain the natural rights of individuals.
Hogwash. The whole concept of America is that individual human rights are unalienable.
Some are noting that the copy of the State of the Union Speech President Trump handed to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was an official document, or public record. If so, Pelosi may have broken the law by tearing it up.
Specifically, it would seem to be a violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2071.
I’m agnostic on the legal point, except in the observation that disregard for the law — disregard for the Constitution, in fact — appears to be a hallmark of today’s Democratic Party.
Next up, the California Rasins.
I have long predicted the collapse of the Democratic Party, and for a variety of reasons: its multiculturalism, its anti-Americanism, its general hatred, its deep incompetence. All the reasons roll up to a single predictive conclusion. The party is doomed to collapse because it has become, at last, incoherent.
I take the catastrophe of the Iowa caucuses as a material sign of collapse manifesting.

The question in the title is one that comes up from time to time here in the Forum. I was delighted recently to discover this discussion of it by my current favorite economist, Steve Keen, and I share it to substantiate my observation — often wrongly rebuked — that banks create money by making loans. But there is much more to the piece than that.
Not knowing anything about Ukrainian law, I have no idea what the significance of Shokin’s complaint might be. Maybe we should give him a passport and let him testify in our impeachment trial, should the Senate swing that way.
