Sig Sauer is about to release the MCX-SPEAR, which is the civilian version of the US Army’s new Next Generation Squad Weapon-Rifle (NGSW-R). It is estimated that SIG Sauer has already sent out between 2,500 and 5,000 of the weapons to their elite dealers—and they were an instant hit, despite costing $8,000. What’s out there is already bought out but I’m sure you can get on the waiting list.
What’s so special about this weapon?
- “It’ll shoot through almost all of the bulletproof vests that are worn by law enforcement in the country right now,” said Ryan Busse, a former firearms company executive who is now a senior policy analyst with the Giffords Law Center and author of Gunfight: My Battle Against the Industry that Radicalized America.“
So yeah, it defeats body armor and turns little children into red mist. But don’t worry. At $8K per gun, teenage school shooters won’t be able to afford it. Unless, or course, Mommy or Daddy buys it for them for Christmas. The militias will be able to afford them. And the bad guys with guns will have them… so good luck to the good guys with hand guns.

Uh, any center fire hunting rifle cartridge will penetrate standard police body armor.
A strike plate upgrade will stop a less powerful AR or AK round once, but subsequent shots will penetrate. Standard deer rifle rounds like a .270, .308 or 30.06 will carry pieces of the strike plate through with the round,
The 6.8×51mm SIG FURY is in the same ballistic class(maybe 5% hotter) as the 30.06 or.308 but it does so from an 8 inch shorter barrel. When used with a rifle suppressor, that makes a big difference in handling the weapon.
The 30.06 is 115 years old, time marches on, but in small steps.

First, in FMJ military cartridges, it is less lethal than a 30.06 hunting round made to expand.
But that is still pretty lethal.
I really have a gripe with glamorizing weapons and cartridges to the public.
Prior to the 1994 Assault Weapons ban, ARs and AKs were hardly ever used in crimes, and outside of shooting enthusiasts, hardly anybody knew what they were. but the ban, coupled with TV and movies made the popular with the wrong people.
Now you’re an advance man for something new.

That was pretty bad, Don. For years, the gun manufacturers have sold the guts and glory of guns. The “man license” advertising was the crux of the Sandy Hook lawsuit.
And you are blaming Lois who has an audience of maybe 12 here of be an advance man for selling powerful guns.
You guys are really something. 45,000 deaths a year so you can keep your arsenal is not enough?

That Man license thing was an obscure ad by one company. I had never heard of it until you brought it up. If I had seen it, I would have laughed at it.
Lois may have a restricted audience here (it runs about 28-30 daily) but the article quoted has much wider reach.
More people will learn of this new military cartridge from anti gun sources than from the shooting sports press.
But it’s still not the worst case by a long shot.

Glamorizing weapons is what sells. Manufacturers sell guns. It’s what you dreamed of. Free market at its finest. Even GOP candidates are selling them by posing with AR-15’s and spouting patriotism.
Only now you voice concern, perhaps regret, that this has taken off. I don’t buy that.
At least you didn’t heckle from the sidelines like the two little boys in a peanut gallery trying to impress with macho “cool”…”I want one”.
