A little closer to home…

SEN Chase makes a valid point. I wonder if she can get the GOP to go back to a primary?

  1. The GOP has not done well with primaries, in part because in Virginia there is no way to prevent Democrats from participating in the primary and voting for the most unelectable candidate. It’s about time they figured that out.

Chase is a sure loss statewide, but the GOP has a deep bench of very good. mainstream candidates. But in a primary, they would split the sane vote and let Chase win, and then lose in November.

The GOP is a private enterprise and they can choose their candidate any way they want to.

    1. Unfortunately, your projection does not take into account that the GOP is no longer a politically viable entity going forward.

As it dies its ugly death you should consider how the Libertarian agenda could be part of what replaces it…

        1. Except for Wall Street, the country had already been driven into the ditch. All the economic relief via mortgages, rents, extra unemployment, etc. were all ending and the GOP was not interested in seeing it through.

And we are learning that the supply of vaccines was not nearly what we thought. But Biden is working through that and cleaning up what he can quickly. And he is getting high marks from Americans for his efforts.

Cleaning up after the elephants is what we do. Republicans can either help or at least get out of the way so we can get our nation back on its feet.

Unfortunately, they are still tied to Trump. But we can get over that also.

        2. “we can get over that also” I hope so.

I’ve been increasingly thankful that my faith in the American people to step up by the millions and repudiate the abomination that had grabbed power in our Republic was not misplaced

Each time I start to wonder how/why such a sickness could have taken hold I only need watch GOP reactions to the impeachment process and read a few posts on this forum to see how twisted and detached from reality cult thinking, fear of other and abject ignorance can shape people’s minds.

          Still hopeful…..

    2. You have evidence of Democrats voting in GOP primaries?

The last major effort to affect primaries was by your hero, Limbaugh and “operation chaos” in the 2008 Democratic primaries.

Easy fix. Set it up like PA where you have to register by party.

…”there is no way to prevent Democrats from participating in the primary”

That is a two way street. Once again you appear to only see one side of the discussion.

“The GOP is a private enterprise and they can choose their candidate any way they want to.”

Yerp. And that is why Chase is suing the VA GOP.

      1. The GOP has been trying for registration by party for decades but it would require a constitutional amendment in Virginia and that is a steep hill.

Why do you think it’s a good thing for Chase t sue the GOP for choosing one of the three legal means for selecting a candidate?

If that were entirely true, it wasn’t so many years ago they wee in the majority in both houses.

A steep hill is worth the climb if the outcome is worthwhile. 2 sessions and a vote. It is actually bipartisan, IMO, as it would affect both major parties. It would also allow the LP to have people register as Libertarians, which could be a beneficial off ramp for Republicans who feel betrayed by their party. And some fiscally conservative Democrats, too.

I did not say it was a good idea. Personally, it affects me not. I just stated that she is suing the party because she believes she would be shut out by any of those three legal means.
