WHO expert says “probably not”. I still remain a bit skeptical, but am leaning toward believing that it didn’t. Until a definitive answer comes out saying one way or the other, we can never be sure.
A query about a possible conundrum:
Demagoguery requires COVID to be nicknamed the “Kung Flu”. What about the South African (Cape Town Croup) variety? Or the Brazil (Ipanema Infection) variant? Or the UK (Birmingham Bug) one?
What is interesting and troublesome is that these new varieties are already in the US despite lockdowns, travel restrictions and other assorted efforts to contain the virus. Which is why letting the Third World fend for itself as the rich countries gobble up the lions share is economically, as well as morally, silly.

Ya got me with Cape Town Croup.

More of an Impanema guy, but the WHO is getting a LOT of $ from China and the trump admin turned their back (stupid on steroids).
The slippery nature of the virus mutations suggest some meddling, so I guess we’ll see.
Fingers (ALL of them) crossed.

In the standard model, viruses mutate to become less deadly over time. That the Covid virus seems to be behaving differently should be cause for skepticism on many different levels. You should at least be skeptical that what you are being told is true.
