A place for civil discussion of the events of the day for Tidewater residents without the limitations imposed by media forums.
“Did you know ants never get sick?
“They don’t. It’s because they have anty bodies.”
There was a comment the other day in one of the discussion threads here that claimed Christianity and Communism have important similarities. Paul Kengor, a political science professor at Grove City College, begs to differ. His article, linked above, explains.
Continue reading “Marx on Christianity, Judaism, and Evolution/Race”I found this article through a link at National Review Online. I like the way NRO editorializes the content, but considering the audience here in this venue, I thought it best to source the original.
One can make too much of the fact that even the NYT finds Antifa to be both organized and seditious. So, I won’t make too much of it.
As promotion for Tidewater Forum, however, I would like to point out that we reviewed the same CrimethInc.com article the NYT mentions, but we did it back in June, at least three months before the Gray Lady. Tidewater Forum is the vanguard of the emerging “intelligent world order.” Eat our gas, MSM!
This lighthearted commentary makes a serious point. Humanity is culturally disposed to survive infectious diseases. This is our default condition, a feature of our species the scientifically minded might attribute to evolution.
The writer reports — unfavorably — that “For the first time ever in the magazine’s 175-year history the editors [of Scientific American] have endorsed a Presidential candidate.”

Continue reading “New CDC Estimates: Fatality Rate For COVID-19 Drops Again And May Surprise You”Laura Ingraham has been using a graphic lately titled Covid Survival Rate, which lists survival percentages for four age groups:
0-19 years 99.997%
20-49 years 99.98%
50-69 years 99.5%
70+ years 94.6%
The chart identifies the CDC as the data source, so out of curiosity I went to the CDC website to look at the source data itself. Here is what I learned:

The always interesting George Gilder pens a book review.
After marshalling the facts from his source, he says, “So let’s stop pretending that our policies have been rational and need to be phased out, as if they once had a purpose. They should have been reversed summarily in March and acknowledged to be a mistake, perpetrated by statisticians with erroneous computer models. Instead we were subject to six months of hell…”
Continue reading “We Must Choose: Liberty or Lockdown”I am particularly intrigued by a reference in this article to a Cato paper which claims, “the vast majority of studies has found no statistically significant reduction in the rate of workplace fatalities or injuries due to OSHA.”
Continue reading “Can Governments Really Make the Workplace Safer?”I take (and took) the point our Forum host made in a post the other day that the warrant police used to enter Breonna Taylor’s home was constitutionally invalid because it was a no knock warrant. However, I learned from TV news last night that while the order may have been issued as a no-knock warrant, it was not served or executed in that way. Apparently, an independent eye witness has confirmed that the police both knocked on the door and identified themselves before barging into Taylor’s apartment.
