Isn’t it just terrible how Russia is under attack and has no choice but to invade its neighbors. They are such peace-loving peaceful. Look how peaceful it is in Chechnya. And, gosh, people even laugh when Foreign Secretary Lavrov tells the simple truth of how the war in the Ukraine was “launched against us.”

Well, I guess we will now hear that Poland has no good guys either.
Putin told us he wanted all of Ukraine. “Not so”, said his rooters.
Now he is looking to take Poland on to move borders.
Uh, huh.
Keep your eyes on the pea.

Poland has been acting as a repair center for damaged Ukrainian armor and I suspect this is just a little reminder that participating in a war has risks.

How dare Ukraine seek help when Russia invaded. Admittedly the match was lopsided, 142 million against 43 million, so Russia was at a gross disadvantage judging by the quality of its military. 😇
But Putin has prisoners and conscripts used for living armor to absorb Ukrainian bullets. The “secret weapon”.
We should believe Putin when he says Ukraine belongs to Russia, with or without Ukrainians. He seems to want to fight the West to get it.
I wonder what Putin and the president discussed in private at Helsinki?

“. . . participating in a war has risks.”
Not even a fraction of the risk of starting a war. Obviously.
Frankly, given the performance of the Russian military, I do not think Poland is cowed by such reminders, if that is all they are. Even Russian commentators on Russian TV have admitted the obvious – a war with NATO is not one that Russia could win. That was clear a year ago. It is more clear now.

“And Russia has no plans to invade a NATO country.”
And, yet, one of their top leaders just threated to do exactly that. But, I guess we agree, it is not likely they will try. They have attacked several countries in the past decades none of who were – like Poland – members of NATO.

RE: “And, gosh, people even laugh when Foreign Secretary Lavrov tells the simple truth of how the war in the Ukraine was ‘launched against us.'”
It helps to know the context of Lavrov’s comment. His phrasing echoes a remark Samantha Power made on CNN a few days earlier in which she said that the U.S. is at war with Russia with “Ukrainians doing the fighting.”
https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/watch-samantha-power-lets-slip-us-war-russia-ukrainians-doing-fighting
Hence, the laughter in the audience may have reflected commiseration, not ridicule.
I find that many people are so enamored of their own arrogant perception of the war that they fail to see the danger and the consequences of it. Participants at the international conference in India where Lavrov spoke are generally eager to repudiate U.S. influence in world affairs.

If you had the ability to self-reflect, you would be able to properly place yourself right smack dab in the middle of the arrogance minded. – IMO
As far as the contest of Lavrov’s comment, it is a stretch to say that it was an echo of Powers’ remarks. Mostly because Lavorv’s comment came BEFORE Powers”, but also the fact is that NONE of these actions would be taking place in Russia hadn’t ILLEGALLY invaded its neighbor.

You are misinformed. Power spoke on Feb. 24; Lavrov on Mar. 3.

HOWEVER, Lavrov WAS laughed at for his claim that the war was ‘launched against us.’”.
The fact that you deny the facts are quite telling. Ukrainian forces were not massed on the Russian border preparing to invade in February 2022. Please explain, if you can, how the invasion of Ukraine was launched against Russia? And remember it was Russia who sent forces into Crimea and annexed it in Russia’s name. SO the ACTAUL invasion of Ukraine BY Russia has been going for over 8 years now.

What facts have I denied?
RE: “Ukrainian forces were not massed on the Russian border preparing to invade in February 2022.”
No, they were massed on the administrative borders with Donbas, which they had been shelling for eight years (a war crime).
RE: “Please explain, if you can, how the invasion of Ukraine was launched against Russia?”
I don’t need to explain. I simply accept that Russians and many Ukrainians believe this to be the case. I also accept that Samantha Power (and Angela Merkel) have described the war in exactrly those terms.
RE: “And remember it was Russia who sent forces into Crimea and annexed it in Russia’s name.”
You may recall that President Obama chose to do nothing about that. Why should I care more than he?

You said the laughter was in commiseration. If it was, the laughers were accepting the truth of Lazrov’s claim that a war had been launched against them. That is denying the FACT that Russia, not the Ukraine, not NATO, not the USA was the aggressor.
Why not just admit that Lazrov’s claim was laughable and got the laughs it deserved? Too hard for you?

Non-sequitur.
“I don’t need to explain. ”
” I simply accept that Russians and many Ukrainians believe this to be the case. ”
You have no ACTUAL proof of that. Unless you believe every and all comments form STATE RUN media in Russia. As far as Ukrainians go, that is BULLSHIT.
Because you are UNABLE to explain, is more likely. Yours and Fight Club Boy’s assessment is taken out of context and is an attempt to give credence to Putin’s ILLEGAL and IMMMORAL invasion of a sovereign neighbor.
…”they were massed on the administrative borders with Donbas, which they had been shelling for eight years”
Right. Battling against the KREMLIN backed insurgents who IINVASDED their territory.

Uh, no. He did not choose to do nothing. That was the beginning of economic sanctions against Russia. You know, the ones that Russia hired Trump to get rid of.

NATO could be said to be protecting itself against Russian expansionism.
A lot more truth to that than Lavrov or CNN.
Who is so enamored of their own arrogant perception of the war? Sounds like it could fit you.
Some justifications for letting Putin win and annex Ukraine:
Let Russia take Ukraine, that is all Putin wanted.
Or still holding on to de-Nazification.
Many Ukrainians speak Russian, so they must love Russia or want to be ruled by Putin.
99% approval for Russian rule according to polls in Donbas.
There are no good guys.
Zelensky wears a green t-shirt.
None of our business.
Who cares?
Let’s see: In the 90’s, a treaty specified if Ukraine gave up its nukes, Russia would respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and never invade.
2014, Russia invaded Crimea and Donbas. (Treaties are sooo last century folks. “So sue me”.)
2022 KaBoom.
2023 More KaBoom and Russia has lost (dead or injured) north of 200,000 soldiers, thousands of tanks and other hardware. But they keep trying to flatten the country even though Putin says Ukrainians and Russians are kin folk. (Nice way to treat relatives, eh?)
Yeah, Putin and his mouthpiece are to be believed alright.

If I understand you, you reject every perspective on the war in Ukraine except your own. That’s fine, but you should consider that in war the enemy gets a vote.

Those are not just my perspectives. True, some humor and sarcasm were present.
War was launched against Russia? Before or after Russia invaded Crimea? Donbas? Kiev?
So where am I wrong?

I think you are wrong to apply humor and sarcasm in your commentary. It is impossible to know what you seriously believe when you make a joke of everything.
In this case, I wonder if you think NATO should enter Ukraine to drive Russia out, but I can’t tell.

I have watched the video. It was not a joke.
Furthermore, I have interpreted nothing. I reported the facts. Lavrov claimed that a war had been launched against Russia and his audience laughed at him. Full stop.

Yes, that is the video. I stand by the obvious – Lavrov was not going for laughs. He told a lauhable porkie and people responded by laughing at him. Interpreting it as a deadpan bit of Russia-deprecating humor is, frankly, absurd.
