Generalisimo Trump

Donald Trump – who is still way ahead of Governor DeSantis in MAGA Presidential prefrence polling – took the opportunity of his speech as CPAC to promise martial law in DC and most other cities. Maybe those of you who balk at recognizing the fascist tendencies destroying the Republican Party will wake and smell the coffee. Probably not.

  1. One hour and forty-five minutes of rant, threats and hate.

Fidel was famous for hours long speeches, Trump has a ways to go. But he’ll get there.

Martial law (Marshall law? Marital law? Marsupial law (when pols are in your pocket.)? Marshmallow law?) has been mentioned by several right wing firebrands in Congress, and even in his administration.

“Vengeance is mine” implored a deity of note. “I am your retribution” screeched by a would be deity of lesser note.

240 years was a nice run, though. Too bad Sinclair Lewis was right.

  2. Paywalled. Seeing as how DeSantis hasn’t even announced a presidential run among others and it is only March, I dont put any stock in 2024 election polls and a new 8 point lead isnt “way” ahead or the past. Who cares? As far as marshal law, someone has to pull the reigns on rampant crime in Democrat governed cities because spineless democrats sure won’t do anything. If Republicans didn’t live there too, they should be walled off, dismantle the police and let Democrats squat, rob, sssault, loot, car jack, burn buildings and cars and kill each other as is the norm. Problem solved.

I agree in principle that where law enforcement isn’t doing its job the federal government should intervene. I can’t think of any other solution that makes sense or is available.

Too bad that is unconstitutional, in the way some have called for the MILITARY to take control.

But the again, Federal LE, known as The FBI, should be defunded, accordong to GOP leaders like NTG and Boebert.

Is that a fact? The way I read the relevant legislation, the federal power of posse comitatus is sovereign with only minor procedural limitations.

      2. Trumps promise to send in the armed forces to police cities would be a direct violation of the Posse Comitatus Act. Just another impeachable offense. Ho Hum.

Oh come on. You do not always have to agree with Dear Leader. And throw out your past principles about states rights and local rule. I am sure you can think of other solutions. I can. For example, the Governor of a state or its Legistlature could act.

      1. We differ on what is better.

From the perspective of individual liberty and government frugality, Biden is awful.

But for those who want to be treated like helpless children all their lives, Biden is OK>

          Obviously.

I value competence, patriotism, integrity, empathy, civility, decency, and honesty. You obviously do not. Your hatred of this country, most of its people, and its government trumps everything.

          1. I don’t hate the country, or more than a handful of people, but I regard government as a necessary evil that must be kept under careful control.

About one -in-ten of the country identify as Democrats. You have made it clear that you hate them (us). That is a MONSTROUS handful.

There are approximately 50 million registered Democratic voters. You have frequently made clear your hatred of Democrats.

What I woke up and smelled this morning wasn’t coffee.

The fascist tendencies I worry about are the ones I see every day among those who fetishize Donald Trump as a boogeyman.

    1. Trump said “I am your retribution”.

      For what?

Trumps goals in life are all about getting even with someone or something. He brags about hitting back 10 times as hard when he feels 1. Wronged, 2. Pissed 3. Disrespected, 4. Not enough loyalty, 5. Criticized 6. Caught in a lie. 7. Sued.

Unfortunately none of those reasons do Americans much good. So it is strictly his retribution that we are supposed to elect him for.

I suggest he should fight his own demons so we can move on.

        1. Optimistically I think Trump is yesterday’s news. If the best campaign message is “retribution”, how does that help America?

“Vengeance is mine” and does not belong to anyone but God according to Scripture. I know many think Trump is sent by God, but that does not mean he is Him.

Every caution about worshipping false gods, a golden calf, or ass in this case, seems to be forgotten by those claiming the faith.

Methinks that many “Evangelicals” (quotes for a reason.) are not happy with the Bible, hence the conversion to MAGA.

Democrats, warts and all, are generally seeking to make life better, more competitive, healthier, safer and smarter. You know, the stuff real patriots do.

Republicans of yesteryear actually did the same with their own style which was mainly to curb some of the actions of the left.

Retribution was not even a consideration.

That CPAC was an empty hall was fitting for a party that is now an empty suit.

          IMO

          1. Remember when John Lennon said the Beatles were more popular than Jesus? Caused quite an uproar. Now the “evangelicals” have made Trump more popular. Pretty sad.
