Here is the existential question: Turkey and Syria are enemies of the U.S. They have been hurt by an act of God. Do we help them?
I say yes. Let’s send all the food, clothing, shelter, doctors and nurses we can. Lets even coordinate with Russia and China to save and rebuild lives.
The women and children of Turkey and Syria are not our enemies. It is a good thing for the people of the US to offer help.
It might be a good idea for us to enlist the Kurds to distribute and escort the aid in the immediate aftermath. It might help heal some rifts.

Turkey is a NATO ally. We have already both offered and are sending specialized teams from USAID for search and rescue.
Syria is a problem because of the fighting going on in their civil war. I don’t know the status of the region affected, but apparently there are major refugee camps in the area. And ISIS may be an obstacle, too.
It would be nice if the Kurds and Turks could put aside differences and let bygones be, but reality seems to be otherwise.

Since when has Turkey been an enemy of the U.S.?

When it became an ally of Russia in response to the war in Ukraine.

From wikipedia:
“As a close partner of both Russia and Ukraine, Turkey is actively attempting to broker a peaceful solution to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, and has hosted a number of high-profile negotiations between the two countries.”
Attempting to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine does not indicate a Russian Alliance.

Agreed. But neither does being a member of NATO make Turkey a friend of the U.S.

These are YOUR words:
“Turkey and Syria are enemies of the U.S”
Turkey is NOT an enemy of the U.S., as YOU stated.

I considered the existential question as framed to be more important than the hobgoblin-of-little-minds technicality being made an issue of here.

Little minds? WTF are you talking about.
You said, plain as day, that Turkey is an enemy of the U.S.. If you screwed up, then admit it.
But based on your history and inability to accept that you are NOT perfect in all you say and do, I know that you will never admit your mistake.

You keep misusing that word. You should stop.

Turkey has been a reliable ally for a long time, but since Erdogan got into office, it has taken a militant Islamic turn.
Turkey used to be pretty secular.

True. But We are friends with SOME Islamic countries. And I think “militant” is a bit strong.
