Why Has the FBI Become So Political?

Source: The American Spectator.

The story explains how the death of J. Edgar Hoover and the shock of 9/11 helped transform the FBI.

Is domestic intelligence a legitimate function of government? I don’t think so. Once you start down that slippery slope, falling down to the bottom becomes all but inevitable.

          1. “Seems to me that you are biased against the doctrine of innocence until proven guilty.”

I don’t think so. But it is a fair point. Where does free speech end and seditious conspiracy begin. There is no bright line.

  1. To quote Rick Wilson, “It’s fascinating how the GOP is now aligned with narco cartels and child traffickers in viewing the FBI as obstacle to their goals.”

        1. You need to listen to FOX then.

The Biden border policy has given control of the border to the cartels, the Border Patrol has been downgraded to merely processing paperwork.

Uh, no. You need to stop listening to them. They are rotting your mind. By every measure our efforts to control the border have been very vigorous. For example. . .

If you want to criticize Biden, join with me to criticize his continuation of Trump’s phony Covid excuse to deny asylum seekers due process in this country as the law requires.

          2. Yes, they are making a lot of arrests, but that just means they get a piece of paper with a court date 2 to 3 years off and handed over to an NGO to be transported to some place in the country.

But no effort whatsoever is made to stop people from entering unlawfully. Nor is there any immediate screening for those who obviously have no valid asylum claim.

The border itself is entirely under the control of the cartels.

And yet in the same paragraph you said . . .
“Yes, they are making a lot of arrests . . .”

Funny how you self-styled champions of the rule of law throw it out the window when it comes to desperate immigrants who BY LAW are entitled to a court hearing IN THIS COUNTRY on their asylum claims. They are also entitled to due process of law in court and not just arbitrary judgments by a border patrol agent – what you call “immediate screening.”

If you do not like the law, get the Republicans to stop blocking reform. Until it is changed, it is the President’s DUTY to enforce it as is. To his shame, President Biden has continued Trump’s abuse of Title 42 to block asylum seekers from crossing the border. The Courts have now ordered that the abuse stop.

          4. Asylum is not intended for economic migrants. It was established for those subject to persecution in their home country due to race, religion or politics.

But all screening for eligibility has been eliminated, and anyone can claim asylum and stay here for years legally, or blend in and stay forever illegally.

This is a perversion of the system and in time will make it unavailable for true refugees.

False claims of asylum should be rejected administratively and result in permanent expulsion.

That is complete nonsense. The immigration courts that weigh on asylum applications still exist and still weigh on them every day. There has NEVER been a time when border agents were authorized to determine who is an economic migrant versus a bona fide refugee. You don’t like the law, then get it changed. Until it is, don’t blame the President for executing it faithfully.

          6. Prior to Biden, those who applied for asylum had to wait in the first safe country until their court dates, which were usually prompt as there were so few.

Now, they are admitted to the country without many restrictions, and there are so many that it is 2 to 3 years before a hearing.

If they were still waiting in Mexico, there would still be a manageable number.

Biden sabotaged the asylum system with a standard Cloward Piven strategy.

It has NEVER been legal to force asylum applicants to wait in another country for their court date. The fact that Trump did so does not make it legal. The program you refer to (“Remain in Mexico”) was continued by Biden. It was still ILLEGAL and has found to be such by the Courts.

          8. “Well, the workable alternative would be to wait incarcerated until the hearing.”

Yes, that would legal. So why do you not advocate for a LEGAL response instead of one that is clearly ILLEGAL? What ever happened to respect for the rule of law?

The Obama administration tried a different LEGAL approach of financial support and counselling instead of incarceration. It was less expensive, more humane and nearly as effective with well above 95% of applicants turning up on their court dates. Naturally, Trump dropped it in favor of stealing babies.

          9. Obama/Biden policy served as an invitation to economic migrants to come here with false claims of refugee status.

That is why the system is overwhelmed.

So much better to steal their babies, eh?

Economic migrants have been coming here for decades. The overwhelming majority do NOT apply for asylum. They just overstay their visa or slip across the border.

  2. If you’re saying immigrants are druggies and child traffickers, you’ve got those accusations backwards. Those would be people like Don Jr and Matt Gaetz… both of whom are members of the GOP.

I agree with Paul! For the sake of your own soul, you need to stop listening to FOX!!

You can not equate drug cartels and immigrants. Drug cartels do not use immigrants to carry their goods. They could never generate the profits drug lords want. Any businessman could tell you that.

No, drug cartels deliver their goods via cargo ships. As someone who used to live in Florida, I can verify that. It’s even a running “joke” that whenever you start seeing news articles about people driving down sidewalks and walking along interstates, you know a new shipment just came into port.

Drug lords and their hired politicians want you to believe people who have walked a thousand miles to escape the hell scapes they have created in South America are the villains who are bringing drugs into the country. Maybe one in a thousand is a mule but the small minority who are carrying drugs could in no way supply the market the cartels have created here.

The paperwork that FOX is whining about is the end of the Trump era policy of turning away immigrants without a hearing. The Border Patrols were, in fact, denying people refuge without asking questions… kinda like what we did when we denied a shipload of Jewish people refuge in WWII and sent them back to Germany to be killed. We swore we’d never let that happen again.

    We lied.
