Busted!

The Russian Ministry of Defense claims to have thwarted a Ukrainian assault on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. To support this claim it released a video with footage from an attack helicopter destroying a troop-carrying barge. Pretty dramatic stuff and the story was spread by TASS, other Russian outlets, Reuters, and others in the West.

Too bad it was a total fake. The “barge” destroyed turned out to be the remnants of an old bridge nowhere near Zaporizhzhia. For those of you who uncritically swallow Russian propaganda, learn from this episode and don’t.

    1. That would be good advice for those who swallow Ukrainian propaganda as well.

      And who would that be?

Do you really not understand the difference between countries where journalism is allowed and countries where it is punished?

  1. I blame reality TV. People have come to believe whatever “reality” gets presented to them through the tubes. Propaganda experts have learned to present things like incompetent, criminals as savvy businessmen and the rubes fall for it. “Look Martha, Tucker Carlson says the Ukrainians shelled a nuclear power plant. Must be true.”

    1. Interesting you should mention Ukrainians shelling a nuclear power plant. A couple of weeks ago Western media was awash with claims that Russia was shelling the NPP at Zaporizhzhia. All kinds of conspiracy theories were promulgated.

Only problem was, Russian troops had captured the plant and were occupying it. So, if one was inclined to believe Western media, one would have to believe that Russia was shelling its own forces. Sort of like the idiotic theory that Russia sabotaged its own gas pipelines, Nord Streams 1&2.

Not really. The video shows that the remnant of the old bridge was bombed. It doesn’t show that no naval barges were sunk.

None of France 24’s evidence supports its claim that Russia’s MOD published false information. For those of you who uncritically swallow Western propaganda, learn from this episode and don’t.

    1. With all due respect, can you never accept facts that don’t fit with what you really, really want to believe?

The Russians “proved” their claim of sinking two barges with video that was falsely described as the troop-carrying barges being struck by their helicopters. The France 24 research showed beyond any doubt that the target actually hit in the Russian video was an old bridge. It follows that the Russian MOD DID publish false information. There is ZERO Ukrainian propaganda involved in the France 24 report. Just a careful review of the facts.

Your “rebuttal” amounts to saying that maybe the Russians did sink two barges but not in this video so prove that they didn’t. If your only response to FACTS you don’t like is this lame and pathetic maybe you should just stay quiet? I mean that most sincerely.

        1. If you had watched the video provided by the Russians to prove their exploit you would see the “barge” in the sights of the helicopter, rockets streaming towards it, and massive explosions.

It is really, really laughable how you Putinistas just cannot accept that their version of events cannot be trusted. This piece by France 24 provides a very clear example of how dishonest they are, but you people push back against the obvious truth. Strange and kind of sad.

          1. You misunderstand.

I don’t expect the truth from Putin, nor do I expect it from Zelensky, and I sure as hell don’t expect it from the current US Regime

All of them will lie and spin for their own interests.

Backing Ukraine was a dumb move for us in any case. All we have done is get lot of people killed and made enemies where we could have had allies.

And that’s true no matter how evil Putin or Zelensky might be. It’s just not good for us and it is morally wrong to encourage needless deaths.

Seriously? This current administration? Yet when the previous “regime” spoke, you just knew it was ALL true.

Your hypocrisy certainly continues to know no bounds.

          3. “You misunderstand.”

Uh, your statement was very clear. You were pretending that the Russians were telling the truth but that they could not prove it because a sunk barge is out of sight. Now you are trying to change the subject. Maybe because you have now watched the video with its proven to be fake news?

Whether the suffering to resist invasion is worth doing is not your decision to make not mine. But when a democratic country is asking for help against tyranny we would be wrong to side with the tyrant from both a moral and from a long term strategic point of view.

    2. RE: “The Russians ‘proved’ their claim of sinking two barges with video that was falsely described as the troop-carrying barges being struck by their helicopters.”

Did they? Or was the bombing of the bridge remnaant merely an illustration of the helicopter sortie? France 24 displayed the Telegram message MOD used to announce the sinking of the barges, but there was no video in the message. France 24 put together a text message and a separate video to make its report and it offers no transcript of any statements made in the video.

RE: “Your ‘rebuttal’ amounts to saying that maybe the Russians did sink two barges but not in this video so prove that they didn’t.”

My rebuttal amounts to saying that France 24 is guilty of bad journalism. It makes claims its own data don’t support.

You ALWAYS claim that stories that don’t comport to your view as “bad journalism”. Yet you post crap from non-journalist sources all f the time claiming they are “good”.

        Your BS. is BS.
