In Putin’s unhinged rant at the “annexation” ceremony, he gave us some insight as to why he is so popular in MAGA-Republican circles. He know which buttons to push. He is fighting the West not to grab Ukraine but on behalf of Jesus Christ and against Satanism. He is fighting to protect the family and the idea that there are only two genders. Excerpt . . .

Finally, a new “truth”.
Putin is worried about sex and Jesus. I thought is was about de-nazification, saving Russian nationals, ports and Black Sea access. All along it was about transgenders and the son of God.
Who knew?
Maybe Zelensky can offer not to cut Putin’s nuts off while singing “Praise the Lord and pass the ammo”.
Fighting for Jesus. Yeah, that is what He was all about. Kill as many as you can…in my name, Amen.
That end of the Christian spectrum is worse than Islamic terrorism. At least we know about ISIS, et.al., and they make no bones about murdering infidels.
Invoking the Prince of Peace for human slaughter is an end run around sanctity for profit and power.
Our dear ex just posted on Truth Social a photo of him and Jesus, saying he is in second place (he, not He…yet, at least).
Birds of a feather, folks. What Circle of Hell is reserved for this kind of human sewage?
I recall a phrase from eons ago:

What is to take seriously? It is complete nonsense to the point of being deranged. It is the screech of a cornered bully who wails “Why is everybody picking on me?”
He decries European colonialism but seems not to know how the USSR was assembled or even the Russian Federation. He extolls the idea of national self-determination but has forgotten what happened to Chechnya when they tried to exercise some of that. He damns the Western capitalist system ignoring that Russia has adopted the very worse aspects of it. I could go on and on. It is full of lies and hypocrisy.
Most damning of all is his invocation of Jesus Christ. This from a man who has held power through violence and murder and who has directly and personally caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people through his aggressive warmaking.

That remains to be seen. But even if it does, so what? A lot of Trump followers believe total nonsense as well. That does not make what he says true. Same holds for Putin.
If Putin is right that this is an existential struggle between the West and Russia, I know what side I am on. Do you?

Russia invaded Crimea. Russia invaded Donbas. And, of course, Russia invaded the rest of Ukraine in 2022.
And Ukraine unleashed the the war? Why, because they routed the Russians early on? And since they have suffered 50,000 deaths, lost 1000 tanks, it is Ukraine’s fault for having the gall to defend themselves.
And this is Putin’s “finest hour” (37 minutes actually, but who’s counting.)?

Putin is starting to remind me of the ex-husband of a friend of mine. He was running around on her to the point she couldn’t take it any more, so she filed for divorce. When she did, he started doing everything within his power to hurt her and their son. He trashed her at every opportunity, about everything. All she was asking for was child support but he tried to make it sound like she was robbing him of everything he had. She was crying in her lawyer’s office one day when she asked, “Why does he hate me? I’ve never done anything to him except try to be a good wife and mother.” Her lawyer gave her a very wise answer. He said, “It’s because he knows he’s wrong.” She didn’t understand. The lawyer continued, “I’ve seen it a thousand times. In a situation like this, there are only two sides — the good guys and the bad guys. He can’t think of you as the good guy, because if he does, that makes him the bad guy. And he can’t admit that.”
It seems to me, Putin has finally come to suspect he might be the bad guy in this situation. And he can’t admit that.
It’s also possible he realizes he’s looking the Grim Reaper in the eye. And, like with many fox hole epiphanies, he has had a come-to-Jesus moment.

I am not sure what triggered this outburst. I basically stated what I believe to be a fact – Putin is popular in MAGA-Republican circles. Your other post today sort of confirms that. And listen to Trump’s praise or watch Tucker Carlson any night for further confirmation.
The bulk of the post is words uttered by the man himself. So, what is your problem? Can you even state it?

Are you declaring victim status? An opinion you don’t like is now an attack. Some of us have been called communists, unpatriotic, racists, pinkies, Nazis, (neo or non-neo take your pick), etc.
For me, I try to consider the source and move on.
It is hard to separate Putin xenophobia from MAGA equivalents, particularly since some of the right’s standard bearers love him so.

Putin’s actions are why our Constitution requires the consent of Congress to declare war. And it should be an alarm bell for the broad powers that we have assigned the president because of political expediency and the muscle of the military/industrial complex.
During the era of the Vikings, if a king wanted to wage war he had to get the vote of the peasants. Now peasants in the Nordic countries were actually independent farmers, not his “slaves” and tax source as in so many other countries. So support was critical. And wars during the planting and harvest seasons was out of the question. In addition, the peasants had to have some benefit. What was in it for them to risk their lives?
If he did not sell the campaign for whatever reason, he was often deposed. Sort of a early “vote of confidence” that marks parliamentary governments today.
Nice similarity to our Constitution. War only if the people agree. Which makes sense, since the citizens are the ones who will risk their lives. But Goering put it best when war is dictated.
“Why of course the people don’t want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don’t want war neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. Putin is using a very old, oft repeated, playbook. Bush the Younger did just that when the critics of attacking Iraq had their patriotism challenged.

If nothing else he sure has a good point that there are only two genders but I dont see the correlation with annexing parts of Ukraine. Just because Republicans know this reality does not make us deserving of some weird disdain for not playing fantasy land nicely. As I have said before, if you cut off a boy’s penis it doesnt make him a girl just like if you stick a diamond in a pigs butt but it will never be a wedding ring. 🤣🤣🤣
