Virginia wind scam

WSJ Freelink Spinning Virginia Wind

The claimed capacity of the Virginia wind farm is supposed to power 660,000 homes, but Dominion objects to being held accountable for it actually producing 42% of that capacity.

The General Assembly has forced the State Corporation Commission into a lose/lose deal and consumers are stuck with the cost even if we cancel the whole thing.

    1. The Democrat General Assembly that conspired with Dominion to provide them with this guaranteed profit based on screwing the consumer is capitalist?

They look like the heart of crony socialism to me.

        1. Oh, I know what you meant.

You meant to call the Anti-fossil fuel edicts from the Democrat General Assembly ‘capitalism’

You could call an elephant a fish and be closer.

          1. Ah, falling back on insults when you are shown to be lying.

Might have to come up with some sort of corollary to Godwin’s law for this.

You called the mandated wind farm scam capitalism. It isn’t. Admit the lie.

          2. I called the people who manage utilities to maximize returns for their shareholders “capitalists” because they are. Duh!

I made the simple point that it is appropriate to set performance standards from this approved investment in this context because “capitalists” would be motivated to do less if it was more profitable. It was a very simple point which you twisted beyond all recognition with your usual crony baloney.

          3. There is nothing remotely capitalist about a regulated utility which writes its own regulations for the General Assembly to rubber stamp.

It is actually closer to Mussolini’s economic organization in which entire sectors of the economy were privately owned but operated in service to the State under government control.

Do you truly believe that only Democratic controlled GA’s kowtowed to Dominion at every turn? Dominion lines the pockets of whomever they believe will be in power next, but keep enough going to the other side that they will remain in that politicians good graces for years (campaigns) to come.

Your one-sided argument is disingenuous. And you re smart enough to know that, but not brave enough to fully admit it.

          5. Your attempt to say that utilities are not capitalist organizations is ridiculous. They are the essence of capitalism. People invest in them with the expectation of a return. The fact that they are a natural monopoly does not change their essential nature. It is once again an example of you twisting the meaning of words to support a nonsense proposition.

The comparison with economic organization in Mussolini’s Italy is spurious at best. There are bona fide reasons for the regulated nature of utility companies. You need to do a little self-editing and not post the first thought that comes to mind. IMHO.

          6. In a normal, regulated utility, the State acts as the consumer’s advocate to keep rates as low as possible consistent with a reasonable return on the investor’s capital.

In this case, the State is requiring the utility to provide more expensive electricity in pursuit of the political goal of advancing the “Green” agenda and to reward crony suppliers for that model.

In that way it is exactly like Mussolini’s economic model. The agenda of the State is placed ahead of both the investors and the public.

So do taxpayers, through the coffers of government. That’s what makes public utilities different from normal private businesses.

It is as if the corporation has two boards of directors. That would never happen in a naturally capitalist enterprise.

            Cute!

But it does address the serious issue of the legalized bribery that runs our political system.

It would appear the economics are analogous to the physics.

  2. Just like any greenie project that claims to be able to power x number of homes, I always find myself saying “ooh ooh, that’s wonderful” knowing outright that it’s a fat Democrat lie in the midst and consumers are going to bite it in the end. Any buffoon knows that green is not reliable but Dominion not wanting to guarantee even 42% of capacity should be a wake up reality slap in the face to even the most extreme of greenie liberals. Your pet greenie stuff just sucks…
