Still have heard only one cricket

I’m surprised only one person has suggested a candidate for 2024 in case Trump doesn’t run. So far, there is only one “cautionary” vote for DeSantis. Is nobody considering Youngkin? If not, why not. He has supported the Big Lie, but he has done it quietly enough to have kept out of the fray. He’s new enough that he doesn’t come with a lot of the baggage a candidate like Cruz or Christie might have. Why not Glenn?

    1. Who are you to question Ms. Radford in any way, shape or form. You haven’t posted an original thought in ANY of your ravings.

She has proven a point that the Trumpist BS artists on this forum take a really long time to find some off the beaten path idea to make them appear right, or smart.

      You can’t do either.

    2. Thank you. I was going for snarky and smug. I only want replies from people tough enough to handle the heat. I’ve made replies in other people’s hot kitchens. If they can’t take the heat, I don’t want them in my kitchen. I don’t want to scald any little children.

    3. Agreed, I smell liberal jackass behind this facade. Probably Paul’s lunch buddy. Good reason not to play into it.

    4. How on earth do you get “smug and snark” from her post? We have a person who is willing to challenge, debate and does so with cogent writing. And she stands by her posts like the rest of us: a name not anonymity.

      And you?

  1. Oooooo, and I smell paranoia! I have no idea who Paul is outside of this forum.

Do you even know who Youngkin is? If you don’t like him, why is it you can’t name one other viable candidate? Is it because Trump is your only candidate? (NOTE: That is a sign of being a cult member.)

    1. Ooooooh, how stupid of a question at this point. There is a ton of time for many candidates to emerge including Trump if that happens. Why must you know now before they join the race? All you are trying to do is play cherry picked talking points with Paul.
It won’t help the upcoming slaughter of Democrats in midterm, sorry

  2. Being a Libertarian, I generally stay out of GOP nominations, other than to say I hope it isn’t Trump. But the GOP has an incredibly deep bench.

DeSantis stands out, Abbott too. But if I could pick the GOP candidate, it would be Rand Paul.

If I could pick the Dem candidate, it would be Tulsi Gabbard.

    1. DeSantis is at least a credible MAGA pol. A Trump with some ethics at least.

Abbott is a joke. He tried to sue other states about how the run their elections. He offered a bounty of a million for voter fraud and reneged when the fraudster voted for Trump via his dead mother. He mishandled the energy farce during Texas power outages. Mass shooting are a Texan sport it seems.

Rand Paul amazes me with his conspiracies while being an educated man.

Tulsi would be a credible Republican, so she might be a better choice for them.

  3. Yes Don, I had you picked as a Rand Paul guy. No surprise there. I doubt most Republicans agree, but if I had to pick a Republican candidate, he’d be in my top 3 list. At least he believes in the basic human right to have control over one’s own body. That’s more than I can say for candidates pandering to the talibangelists. I respect that.

My friends in Florida are saying DeSantis has almost destroyed Florida’s economy. His latest fight with Disney may be the last straw. Disney employs more people than any other company in Florida. To hurt Disney is to put the bread and butter of a lot of Floridians in jeopardy.

I have to admit, I’m a little surprised nobody is thinking of Youngkin. I thought he was the state’s Fair Haired Boy. And he does have Presidential ambitions, I’ve heard him say so. And no, I don’t think it’s too early to start thinking about it. A decent campaign takes a long time to put together. Someone with little name recognition outside of Virginia needs to start now if they are serious about running. If we had to have a Republican President, why not have one from Virginia? If he ran, do you think he’d get Libertarian support?

I’m not all that familiar with Tulsi. If I had to pick a Democrat today, I think I’d go with Pete Buttigieg. We need younger blood on both sides of the isle… not to mention in Congress.

Youngkin would have to resign as governor of Virginia to take office as president of the U.S., if he won the national election.

    2. The price of gas is doing far more harm to Disney than anything DeSantis could do.

I really don’t understand why Disney decided to get into Florida politics over a ban on discussing LGBQTLMNOP sex with 8 year olds. You shouldn’t be discussing sex of any persuasion with children that age in school.

That stance turned a lot of people off for Disney. Best thing that ever happened to Disney’s competitors.

      1. Do you have proof that Disney’s numbers have declined since they took a stance against hateful Governance? IF not, then your post is fertilizer. Synthetic fertilizer because it is NOT natural.

            Your words, with no proof.

SO I just trust YOU that Disney is going to take a massive financial hit because of their stance? Bwhahaha

And if it is down now, it WILL rebound, so maybe your advice is sound for the long-term growth it will provide.

But if even 30% of potential patrons decide on Universal instead of Disney because of this, it would be catastrophic.

          1. “. . . it should remain neutral on State politics”
            Or else!

Shithead policies in Florida DO affect Disney. Our family, for one, has reconsidered plans to take the grandson to Disney World while Florida is in the hands of Trumpist idiots.

Disney is not the only company that has made investments in Florida based on tax arrangements. So, you are saying it is okay for the government to single them out and punish them tax-wise for expressing a differing view on state policies. Yeah, that is consistent with your Libertarian ideas. Sure it is. Consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, right?

          2. Special tax arrangements are a bad idea generally.

But please do tell me how your grandson’s experience in Florida will be spoiled by not allowing teachers to discuss LBGQT sexual practices with 8 year olds.

Note that I am also opposed to discussing heterosexual sex with 8 year olds.

You are showing yourself to be even dumber than I thought. You take an obvious political stunt at face value. Teachers do not do that. They have never done that. And if any one of them ever did, there is no need for this stupid legislation to remove them from teaching. Duh!

            1. It convinces the ignorati that schools are not safe for their kids.
            2. It opens the door to all kinds of deplorable misapplication by those same people.
            3. It makes teachers fearful of giving age-appropriate responses to kids’ questions.
            4. It stigmatizes kids living in non-traditional families.
            5. It is insulting to teachers.
            6. It is part of the overall slimy attempt to roll back Oberfell v Hodges.

          5. A state that promotes hate or exclusion, that also has “The Happiest Place on Earth”, has as much right to say something is stupid as we do about anything else. The change by DeSantis is retribution, plain and simple, and the GOP will wonder what happened to all of the Disney money flowing to their campaign funds.

But in any case, how is prohibiting teaching 8 year olds about LBGQT practices hate or exclusion? We don’t teach heterosexual sex to age inappropriate kids either.

          7. “If you want special treatment giving you advantages over your competitors,”…

There were no competitors when Disney was granted their status.

…”how is prohibiting teaching 8 year olds about LBGQT practices hate or exclusion”

Prohibiting the ability for a teacher to answer the question “Why does Jimmy have two daddies (or mommies). is NOT teaching about LBGTQ practices. By not allowing the question to be answered in a fair and understanding manner, the child is then EXCLUDED.

We do not do either. And the bill does NOT address the teaching of “practices.” Maybe you should know what is in it, before pontificating that there is nothing wrong with it?

Here is the language provoking the discussion. . .

“Classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.”

Absurdly broad prohibitions rightly mocked as the “Do Not Say Gay” bill. Its effect is to stigmatize people and especially non-traditional families.

  4. Gas prices are higher than they’ve been in 7 years because oil company profits were nearly $25 billion last quarter — higher than they’ve been in 7 years. Gas prices are hurting more than just Disney. DeSantis singled out Disney for his own personal revenge.

Nobody in Florida was discussing sex with 8 year olds. Teachers were only trying to explain to kids that some of their friends had two dads and some had two moms and that was okay. Nobody was explaining to 8 year olds what was happening in the bedroom.

Disney’s stance may have turned some people off, but overall, it seems to have increased business. Their Pride Day celebrations are packed.

    1. Gas prices at the pump are through the roof. And yet the price of petroleum is not. That disconnect is what is driving record oil company profits. Look at this graph of West Texas Crude Prices. Click on the 10Y button to focus on recent history. West Texas crude is now at very nearly the same level as it was in 2014 when the average price at the pump was a little more than half of what it is now.
