My impression of the speech is that Stumble Joe and his handlers have committed themselves to massaging the decline of America, even sniffing her hair as she lays down to expire.
For example, in a State of the Union speech I expect to hear something about the state of our military. The Navy recently announced it needs to almost double the size of the fleet to meet the commitments the C-in-C has given them. Not a peep on that from the Old Man.
I wasn’t expecting much from this president in this speech. I was, however, surprised to see that bread and circuses could look so ghoulish.

Where is that announcement? What commitments has the C-in-C given that calls for a doubling of ships? (By the way, that has been the Navy’s go to for decades. ALL of the services say the need more money every single budget cycle.)
Had to find something to bitch about and dug up this one?
We spend more on defense than the next 11 countries…combined. That includes Russia & China.
At some point we need to spend money on ourselves, not just bombs. Healthcare, education, childcare, jobs training and environment are all more important in the long view than supporting close to trillion dollar armies.
Our arsenal didn’t do squat to prevent Putin from his megalomaniacal expansion. Putin holds out nukes as a threat, and no one can afford the risk of challenging him.
China can do the same, except Xi is not unbalanced like Putin seems to be.
Your lack of understanding how the Navy works is understandable, but short sighted.
Admirals do NOT serve on ships. Strike Group Commanders have a flagship they deploy and fly their flag from. (Usually one- or two-star admirals). The rest drive policy, oversee programs and ALL of them answer to civilian overseers.
As far as too many aircraft carriers go, let me remind you that of the 11 on the rolls, 3 are in shipyards for maintenance, 3 or 4 are deployed, and four are in various stages of training cycles. They do not encourage meddling; they show the flag, work with allied navies and provide free travel to various parts of the world for thousands of young sailors. Who also participate in relief efforts and projects in less developed countries.
Is that the new name for Boebert and MTG? Screeching harpies that have no idea how to govern, show ZERO class, and make ugly spectacles of themselves. They made “You LIE!” sound like a fart in church.

So what? We spend far more on Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

So what is your point? That because we have obligations to take care of our citizens, we have to spend more on bombs?

It’s the same thing that has been said by DON since Reagan’s goal of a 600 ship Navy. Nothing new.

Not me.
Too many aircraft carriers encourages meddling where we don’t belong.
there are many problems with the Navy, starting with having more admirals than ships.

And let us not forget that the Navy was in the Constitution, unlike the other services.

That is often overlooked,
The Army must be reauthorized every 2 years.
But I still say the Navy is top heavy with admirals.

I don’t necessarily disagree with that. Cut the Admirals and pay those who carry out the policies a better wage. (The Enlisted folk)
