An Evaporating Edifice. The stunning truth about Islam’s origins.

Source: Frontpage Mag.

When I was growing up there was a theory that Christianity is a made-up religion and its purpose was to subjugate the masses through mind control and grift (e.g., indulgences). The book in this review makes a similar claim about Islam, with one striking difference.

    1. It is not surprising that a Muslim would reject Spencer’s narrative. This particular rejection, however, is surprisingly weak.

For example, while allowing that the Koran may not have been written by Muhammad, just as the Gospels were not written by Jesus, the critic claims the exact words of the Koran were nevertheless recorded exactly as spoken by Muhammad. Thus by pure sophistry is a key tenet of the faith preserved in the face of inconvenient scholarship.

Christians have been pilloried for less, and their founder’s actual existence in history is widely confirmed.

      1. Personally, I did not see the discussion in the video to be anything like “sophistry.” It seemed reasoned, fair and balanced. But, then, I do not have a dog in the fight. I really don’t care.

This book is part of a meaningless squabble between very similar Abrahamic religions. What matters is not so much the historical existence of figures like Jesus or Muhammad. What matters is what they and their followers teach and believe. In that regard they are both VERY similar with their totally nonsensical view of reality.

I beg to differ just a bit on your comparison between Muhammad’s words being recorded and not Jesus’. Almost every Christian Bible I have seen indicates that words in RED or as indicated were spoken EXACTLY as Jesus spoke them. As you stated Jesus did not write the Gospels. Yet he is quoted extensively in them. Why could the same not be said about Muhammad?

  1. What is the point? That Islam is a sham and Christianity is the true path?

One could provide proof positive that neither Jesus or Muhammad never existed, yet their messages would still be significant.

Not to me. The book review does a nice job of summarizing the book, which I read when it first came out and found interesting.
