Researchers placed a sensor array in a patient’s brain and were able “to decode full sentences as the participant attempted to say them.”
This is fascinating stuff, but my attention goes to the name of the research sponsor: Facebook.
Speculations of the tinfoil hat variety are irresistible. Once it becomes possible to decode brain waves into information, encoding information into brain waves should also become possible. Will Facebook get the patent on that?
Probably not available to stream but this was all foreseen and it’s hysterical…

Encoding has been around for millennia.
A lynch mob is a perfect example. People who seem smart, compassionate, have families, go the church, teach manners to their children can turn into a moral animals by persuasion and well entrenched beliefs. And the influence can be one person. A leader whose charisma and authority supersede critical thinking among his followers.
When such mass hysteria reaches national levels we get Nazi Germany, Serbia, Rwanda, Cambodia, and a long list of minds captured by conspiracies supplanting reason. The reptile brain takes over and the program runs.
I wouldn’t worry about FB. Zuckerberg is the ultimate capitalist and his motivations are simple: wealth.
When power and adulation are the motivators, then reason is not important so long as belief is strong.

When such mass hysteria reaches national levels we also get NPR, CNN, NYT, WAPO and BLM.

Hardly. Now FOX, Breitbart, OANN do actually fuel the right wing hysteria. Assaults on the government, secession talks, the Big Lie, Pizzagate, threats of violence against election officials and governors…these are actual examples of over-the-top mob hysteria.
BTW why did you knee jerk react with references to NPR , BLM, etc.? I did not mention anything but history with no reference to today.
I suspect you saw a parallel to evil in the past perpetrated by cult like leaders. Can’t have that now can we?

“BTW why did you knee jerk react with references”
It is his world view and anything that doesn’t fit he reacts to with disdain.
Dr. Semantics and Mr. Contrarian by JTR.
ANd why three news organizations and a social justice movement? Ignoring those that he supports and believes in without regard for factual reporting and doing right by ALL citizens is not good for him or the “right” people.

Hardly a knee jerk. You sought to show that “Encoding has been around for millennia,” but your examples are biased. The examples I chose reflect an opposite bias to show that the “encoding” process you describe has broader application.

Those examples show a bias how? Some right wing, some left wing, some looney murderers.

RE: “Those examples show a bias how?”
They are all examples of mob violence. A better generic example of mass hysteria would be the Great Dutch Tulip Craze of the 1600s.
The examples I chose all illustrate contemporary mass hysteria on the left, which have also included mob violence.

With all due respect, that is idiocy.

This was done in Batman and Robin. Jim Carey’s Riddler accomplished it through television.
