Selling Rocks in Appalachia – A Millennial’s Dream

This delightful video might be called “Economics in One Lesson,” although that title is taken.

It starts with the speaker, Kate, searching for rocks in a creek and ends with a demonstration of turning them into cabochons.

  1. When I was very young, 7 or 8 I think, I used to collect miniature pinecones and go door to door selling them as decorations 10 for a nickel. I had the customer reach in a brown paper bag full of them and if they pulled out the one with a penny taped to it they got 10 more free. You would not believe how many bought them and how many pulled out the prize cone too..l. I sold all kinds of stuff, shined shoes, mowed lawns and did almost anything for money. Never got rich but it was fun.
