The nightmare of every Republican pol is coming to pass. Thanks Trump!

Building a political movement on Birtherism, race-baiting, White Supremacy and voter suppression comes with a price. The Democrats have always struggled with turnout and supporter apathy. This year, not so much. I am put in mind of Admiral Yamamoto’s remark after Pearl Harbor . . . “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.” So, Thanks Trump!

    1. It is a pretty good quote.

Your problem is that those folks who might be fired up about sensible gun regulations are always fired up about something. Supporter apathy and turnout have not been GOP problems. Or, in other words, your “sleeping giant” has not been asleep.

    1. That is probably mathematically correct overall. And, if rainwater were beer we would no longer have to buy it.

You know, maybe it is just me, but Trump hesitating to forcefully condemn White Supremacy, telling suburban voters that he has “saved their damn neighborhood,” calling Kamala Harris a “monster”, and repeatedly demonizing minority members of Congress may not be the best way to “woo” them.

But let’s say that of new black voters 20% will vote for Trump for whatever reason. Why, again, should I not wish for that? That would be FOUR new votes for the Democrats and ONE for Trump. Seems fine to me.

    1. Okay. Thanks for that.

The imaginary quote does seem, however, to capture his sentiments about starting a war with the United States. It seems he was against it because he believed it could not be won. It is reported that the day after Pearl Harbor while his colleagues were celebrating, Yamamoto sunk into a deep depression.
