I turns out that in at least on Michigan rally, a militia group was invited to provide “security”.
Security from what? The brave, intrepid and stoic state police that were protecting the statehouse while being yelled at in close quarters risk their lives for those armed and uncaring idiots.
Trump’s totally irresponsible and reckless calls for #Liberate started this whole armed debacle. Blood will surely be on his hands should this erupt into violence.
A president, even Trump, who calls for insurrections in the states against duly elected governments that are part of the United States, is a traitor. Pure and simple.
But, but, but . . . as Dr. Tabor has explained, it is impossible to have a truly peaceful protest if you do not bring guns. Bringing guns shows how truly peaceful you are because even though you could have, you did not start murdering people. With guns, it is merely “impotent” protest, not peaceful protest.
You cannot make this stuff up.

You are dishonestly mischaracterizing my position.
I have repeatedly posted that going assertively armed is justified as a form of speech WHEN THE ISSUE IS GUN CONTROL.
Going armed for the purpose of intimidation is not justified. It is essentially off-topic.

It IS the fucking topic, Don. Jesus. You have consistently stated that the 2A protects the 1A. Your verbal jujitsu is BS. And I don’t mean Bob Smith.

You say I have “dishonestly” mis-characterized your position based on a qualification that you now introduce? Yeah, sure. But even with that qualification your “thinking” about the role of guns in supposedly peaceful demonstrations is still bizarre.
“Assertively armed?” Is that what you call brandishing weapons now?
Off topic? Sure seems on topic to me. The subject was people showing up at demonstrations “assertively armed.”

Brandishing is a crime, and requires showing an intent to do harm, simply carrying a firearm visibly is not brandishing by any legal standard.
If the topic of the protest is firearms, peacefully bearing arms is a statement. In other contexts, it MAY BE intimidation, though it can also be deterrence if there is reason to believe the demonstration might be co-opted by others with violent intent.

Jimmie, do you remember HA providing you with security?
I seem to remember Freedom Riders providing security to families of fallen soldiers when Westboro Baptist protested. I do not recall them being armed.

I think it was an Altamont reference, and no, I was not CONUS at the time.
