Levitz shows how the conservative message is basically a lie.
He says “COVID-19 has called many of the conservative movement’s biggest bluffs. Perhaps the GOP will therefore emerge from this crisis an ideologically revitalized center-right party that’s committed to an evidence-based conservatism that would favor deregulation where appropriate (such as, say, for physician’s licensing requirements), heightened state capacity where needed, and respect for all hard-working Americans.”
I believe what will happen is the GOP will turn around in 18-24 months and bale it all on the Democrats. “We were forced to do it in order to protect the country. We didn’t really WANT to to it. We had to because the Democrats made us do it.” Forgetting of course that the Democrats did the majority of the heavy lifting negotiating with the REPUBLICAN administration.
A lot to unpack, but a well presented and thoughtful analysis.
My general thought is that it is unfortunate that we have career politicians that make self serving decisions as opposed to doing what’s in the best interests of the American people.

My, laughable left wing BS doesn’t deserve insight.

I find examining issues from as many “wings” as possible can be quite enlightening.

Good point.
A bird with only one wing can only fly in circles, if at all.

Considering your lack of insight, whether it is deserved or not is kind of moot.
Or am I missing something?

That is the best description yet of the entire Trump administration.
I think you nailed.

You might notice that the premise and the theme of the article is logically fallacious.
There is no standard, objective definition of conservatism. The article picks a couple of conservative-sounding ideas, exaggerates them in a pejorative way, and then pretends they are representative of the whole. In rhetoric this is known as the straw man argument.
There is also a hint of bigotry: assuming all members of a class are the same as a particular representative or characteristic (e.g. skin color) of that class.
You can test the fallacy for yourself. Is it really plausible that all conservatives are admitting their beliefs are delusional?
Yeah, I know the glib answer is to say they are. But glib and smart are not the same thing.

“ glib and smart are not the same thing.“
Neither are verbose and rational…
