As suspected, Trump’s claim of decisive, life-saving action on travel is baloney.

Those pesky facts strike again! Repeating “alternative facts” over and over and over does not make the real ones go away. This kind of sorry leadership and mismanagement is deadly.

    1. Since when is fact checking propaganda? If miss-truths, fabrications, overstatements, and in some instances, outright lies have become the norm, then the propagandists in support of Mr. Trump win. And truth dies a slow and painful death.

Pretty much since so-called “fact check” web sites started popping up. In the example at hand, the “fact check” article is 3,000 words long, making it a fairly extensive exploration of subtle interpretations, all of which illustrate a singular proposition that the president is not to be trusted.

And yet the ultimate fact remains that the federal response to the coronavirus outbreak has been pretty good. For comparison, see the federal response to the swine flu outbreak in 2009, in which 20,000 people had been hospitalized and 1,000 people had died before federal agencies declared an emergency.

One can only conclude that the “fact check” is written to serve ideological purposes. Hence propaganda.

        1. 90% of what comes out of Trump’s mouth is baseless propaganda. yet you deny that fact on a regular basis. If you don’t like the President’s lying, you should question it, not support it. But you approve, so….

Actually, you don’t just approve, you fully support it with pretzel logic explanations of why his lies aren’t REALLY lies, just vague misunderstandings and mischaracterizations of what he said. Truly sad that a man like yourself who displays a great deal of intelligence is taken in by the snake oil salesman-in-chief.

          1. When you make statements that lies are ok because Trump says them, you belie the intelligence I have seen form you ion some of your posts. if you take offense at being called a man of intelligence, then who is the snowflake now?

The reminds of a discussion I had in the 1970’s with the then executive of the local chapter of the Red Cross.

When he was a field worker, the Red Cross responded with truckloads of aid for stranded folks in the Tennessee mountains by some natural disaster, floods I think. They arrived in the nearby town and were met by the local sheriff. He told the Red Cross to just unload all the relief supplies with him and leave. The Red Cross said they could not do that. But persuasion and some not so subtle show of force convinced them to do as he said. Better to not let the victims suffer more.

The bottom line was that the sheriff removed all Red Cross markings, and when he drove into the hills and met the folks he basically told them that their sheriff was here to help at his expense. The whole idea was to consolidate his power in that county by posing as their savior.

The ultimate fact remains that the victims got relief supplies.

The truth was that the sheriff did little to actually effect relief, and lied about it.

I think that sheriff and Trump are woven from the same cloth.

        3. “The excerpt also claims that Obama “declared a public health emergency on what was already a pandemic” in October 2009. But this is also wrong. Obama declared a national emergency, not a public health emergency, in October 2009. The Obama administration declared a public health emergency in April, months before swine flu was declared a pandemic. At the time that the Obama administration declared a public health emergency, only 20 confirmed cases (not over a million) of H1N1 existed in the United States.l

That is from my post the other day about talking past each other.

It matters not that Trump is lying. What counts is that when his lies are exposed, his followers circle the wagons even tighter.

Not that his bull poop shouldn’t be recognized for what it is: propaganda to deceive and confuse.

But a better way is to report what the facts are first.

For example, start the report with:

“The travel restrictions that we put in place in consultation with the president were very measured and incremental,” Azar told reporters on Feb. 7. “These were the UNIFORM RECOMMENDATIONS [caps mine] of the career public health officials here at HHS.”

        Then follow with:

However, “Trump added that his decision to impose the travel restrictions was made “against the advice of almost everybody.”

        Then:

Report the results of calls, if any, to the White House to confirm who opposed the restrictions and why.

Not that the committed supporters really care, yet, but it takes the “attack” mode and changes it to just a recitation of the events in the order they happened. Let Trump and is folks do the “fact checking”.

The point is to not let Trump be the everlasting victim. Let him explain himself.

If the press did this for all his BS it might sink in.

        IMHO

Unusually childish response, even for you. And, my oh my, what a strange choice of prurient adjectives. Maybe says more about you than is wise to reveal?

But, believe it or not having this clown as our President while we face a real national security crisis is a BFD. You can keep your head in the sand until you turn blue. I will not.

A bigger effing deal is irresponsible people like you who incite needless fear and loathing for partisan political ends.

Trump has been doing that since he glided down the escalator.

Yet, the ultimate fact is he won the election. He won the votes of a minority of the electorate with judicious wins in key states. And they loved his fear and loathing rhetoric.

          Still do, for that matter.

  1. I saw nothing particularly persuave about such a lengthy “fact check” of the use of the word ban versus restriction. Who cares??? Restrictions or bans on certain people are in place at a much earlier time than than other health emergencies before this. Be happy for action taken.

Well, they are two very different things (as noted in the fact check) and it was ANOTHER bald faced lie by the President of the United States.

Other than that, yeah, who cares if the President lies to the American people on a daily basis making a bad situation worse…
