Being 72 myself, I am obviously concerned. But one thing for sure, it is not the common cold.
If behind a paywall, the gist is that if the virus manages to get into the lungs things can go from mild to moderate to critical in very short order. The “tipping point” can be a matter of a day or so in older or compromised people.
It can damage the mucus membranes and cilia that keeps lungs clear in healthy individuals. Then other pathogens that flourish in our bodies can follow into the upper and lower respiratory systems.
Lack of oxygen to the other critical organs such as kidneys, liver and heart is the lethal part.
Don’s oxygen concentrator was probably a wise purchase.
Looks to be a great day in the neighborhood. Washing your hands often and picking your nose less should help.
I read that article too. It made me mindful of my daughter’s father-in-law who has been struggling to survive – and doing pretty well for years now – with a form of blood cancer. In that fight his immune system has been severely weakened. He, and probably hundreds of thousands – if not millions – of similar people are facing a truly terrifying ordeal.

Cruel irony about cancer treatments is that the side effect of a weakened immune system can make simple infections very serious or legal.
Yet, research is humming along with regards to immunotherapy and other less “toxic” treatments.

Kinda like a pathway disease just opening the door for the real killer.
Get your pneumococcal vaccine.

For what it is worth, I followed your advice on the pneumonia vaccine. I had been intending to get it done and your comment catalyzed me into doing so. By the way, Thanks Obama. This preventative healthcare was fully covered by my insurance. Not even a co-pay.
