I’m not saying any of them want Trump to win, just that Trump winning would be less detrimental to their credibility and legitimacy than a Sanders victory.

If I’m a neoliberal, centrist, diet Republican Democrat, I want Pete to win so he can do his best Obama impression while maintaining the status quo. Failing that, I want Bernie to be the nominee and lose to Trump so I can use this as a cudgel against anyone left of center in the future.
I imagine they’re looking at the same polls we can all see that show Bernie as the most popular politician in America and having the highest projected margin of victory against Trump and they don’t like their chances with scenario two.

Fair enough, I’m fearful that implementation of a Sander’s platform would be ruinous to our economy and system of Government.
Of course trump’s incompetence and corruption are a greater threat.

That works for me. I think the Democratic Party is collapsing due to philosophical incoherence and, possibly, deep state corruption. Anything which hastens its decline and fall is a good thing in my view.
I tend to think, too, that Bernie’s populist faction is robust and will outlive the Democratic Party. I find the prospect worrisome, but just guessing about the future I imagine a lot of today’s young Bernie Bros will grow up to become seekers of John Galt. Objectivism is the natural heir to relativism.
Just a thought.

Also, many of us are actually former “seekers of John Galt.” We found that private tyranny is just as bad as government tyranny. My liberty is meaningless if my ability to feed and house myself is contingent upon the whims of an employer.

The leaders of the party that have actually been elected by voters and chosen by their caucuses to lead them, still hold a bit of sway in the party.
At least the party discusses differences, as opposed to the GOP which needs to change it’s moniker to TNP (Trump’s New Party)

I take Pelosi’s statement with a grain of salt since she’s facing a lefty primary challenger for the first time in like 20 years. Still, it’s good to see.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, I actually think the GOP is a much more tactical, intelligent party. Their base is gaga for Trump so rather than sabotage him, they fell in line. And it got them the White House and 2 (and counting) SC justices.

While she may face a challenger, I don’t believe the majority of voters in her district want to lose the clout they have right now. However, she could get a reverse Bratt.
Unity is what is important in any party. It had better happen this time or it will be another 4 years of embarassment form the Oval Office.

Bernie can be as socialist as he wishes. He will be able to use the bully pulpit, but he can only sign the bills he gets. Same as Trump, he’ll get no bills with Mitch in place. He’ll only be able to undo damage to the executive and maybe make a kinder and gentler nation.
