AOC and the folks behind the Green New Deal are just playing right out of Trump’s playbook. Or his ghost writer’s at least.
Propose the extreme and force the opponent to counter.
Not the end of any world as we know it. Time to negotiate. Something Both McConnell and the regime either can’t or won’t do.
But they will learn or be responsible for the damage to America all on their own.
Hanson need to go back to teaching Latin.

OK, then, let’s play. What reasonable compromise are you willing to settle for to get the Green New Deal you want?
Keep in mind, I intend to honor the terms of discussion as already set, in which we’ll all be dead in 12 years.

More detail than I want to tackle now. But here are some thoughts.
Expand Pell grants or something similar along with more off-site degrees to lower the cost of higher education. Not free but just more affordable. Invest in schools in poorer districts that suffer due to lower property values.
Accept a public option available by a voluntary hike in payroll taxes for those that can’t afford insurance.
That would of course allow more pressure on providers and drug companies to lower fees and prices.
Leave in place the auto industry goals for mileage. They are already heading there anyway.
Carbon taxes or some variety thereof.
Speed up the move towards high speed rail in the corridors that make the most sense.
Forget the unrealistic deadlines. That is just an attention getter.
Of course as Democrats are prone to tax rather than endless borrowing, we might look at Wall Street. As evidenced by the Credit Default Swap fraud going on, there is plenty of money sitting in control by folks with too much time on there hands and little foresight.
After all they are making all this money be being citizens in a great, free, rule of law and well defended nation. They should help keep it that way, in my opinion.
Now that could MAGA.
IMHO

My turn: I have no interest in supporting any of the things you propose. Each of them has known defects as public policy and there is no good reason to waste our resources on them when we have only 12 years to live.

Well, at least you gave a detailed rebuttal…as in “your wrong”.
Why did I bother to bite the cheese for your entertainment.
My bad.

You claim the Green New Deal is a negotiating position. How well did the position work out for you in only one round of negotiation?

Thanks for the link. More and very illuminating evidence of the intellectual decadence of “conservatism” in the time of Trump. No actual ideas. Just lies, name-calling and fear mongering.
Sad.

Noted. But where is the intellectual sophistication in your criticism?

There is to be no compromising on Medicare-for-all. IMHO. We already have a dog’s breakfast of dysfunctional overlapping insurance and subsidy schemes that do nothing to rein in the greed of the medical industry and big Pharma. It is too late for the so-called public option. Time to cut the Gordian Knot once and for all.

How far are you willing to go? Will you, like Mao, derive your power from the barrel of a gun?

I am intellectually sophisticated enough to recognize and identify lies, name-calling and fear-mongering when I read them. There is NOTHING of substance to rebut in the material you linked to. If you think there is, please provide proof that you have stopped beating your wife.
“Maoist?” Good grief! What does that even mean? AOC is not “destroying” our culture – she is a product of it as it actually is today where the rich get richer, the middle class is vanishing and young people are drowning in debt to feed the greedy.
If you have not watched AOC questioning witnesses in front of her committees, then you should. She is a model of preparation, decorum and seriousness of purpose that stands in stark contrast to the demagoguery of most of her colleagues across the aisle.

I’ve done that. AOC is an ignoramus, just as Hanson observes. You are of course correct to note that she is a product of her culture, but being an ignoramus among ignoramuses is exactly the reason for Hanson’s reference to Mao’s Cultural Revolution.

Your calling her an ignoramus after actually (?) watching how she handles herself in these hearings reflects extremely badly on you. It really and truly does. You or Hanson may disagree with her policy ideas but – as is very often the case – the only response is baseless name calling. “She is a socialist. She is a Maoist. She is an ignoramus.”
Sad.
Mao’s Cultural Revolution had nothing to do with ignoramuses. That is a very lame attempt to find some objective meaning in Hanson’s clueless name calling. In fact, that Cultural Revolution was an Astroturf revolt against modernity and reform very similar to MAGA with both being lead by autocratic figures who could brook no dissent.
