If it was not obvious before this, it is certainly clear that playing to the news media is what the FBI is about now, not law enforcement.

Stone’s arrest was certainly way over the top. What I find interesting, however, is that such tactics will garner sympathy in many cases. And it provide critics with “see, I told you so” optics.

This should be a red pill, but the idea that media in the U.S. functions as an extension of state power is just too hard for many people to accept. A whole pharmacy full of red pills — the Stone arrest being the third in a series, all stemming from the same legal matter — couldn’t wake them up.
