Interesting link and story.
As the study said, it is difficult to find a causal relationship, but the data does seem compelling.
We have a president who regularly tweets insults to anyone who irks him for whatever reason. He also has a base that at its core, either don’t care about this lack of civility from the president or actually find it to be a positive trait.
And children do still copy adults. That is how smoking became such a pervasive habit decades ago. It was an adult “pleasure”, so kids copied it. Remember candy cigarettes? And we all know, at least those of us who did fall into the habit as young people, that those first cigarettes made us nauseous. Yet we persisted because adults did it, both in movies, television and at social gatherings. It was deemed “cool”.
Maybe calling Senator Warren “Pocahontas” is “cool” too.
Just my opinion.
