The problem for us in Syria is not how President Trump gets us out, it is that we are there in the first place.
Russia’s only warm water port in the Mediterranean is in Syria, they were not going to let Asaad fall to ISIS and ISIS would not have been a problem had the Obama administration not allowed the CIA to arm them from the arsenal taken from Libya. In any case, Russia has the national interests and proximity to deal with them.
But what of the Kurds? They have been allies against ISIS, but the defeat of ISIS is not their goal. They want a homeland carved out of oil rich areas in Iraq, Syria and Turkey. That never was going to happen. What promises were made to them? Are we going to go to war with Russia, Iran and Turkey to give them their homeland?
We need to stop involving ourselves in the religious and tribal wars of the middle east. We do it badly and have no real interests to defend there.

I generally agree, but would offer two thoughts; the intervention in the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait was needful. And a “hands-off” policy in Afghanistan led to 9/11. We can’t just butt-out. IMO.

I agree on Kuwait, but prior to our intervention in Afghanistan the Soviets were doing a pretty good job of suppressing the Taliban. I think 9/11 was more the result of that than failure to build schools there after the Soviets left. (Yes, I’ve seen “Charlie Wilson’s War)

We have an interest in helping countries in the Middle East become independent from the British financial system that made them wealthy. We should liberate ourselves, too.
