AOC has been demonized and threatened non-stop since emerging on the national scene. She had every reason to feel particularly threatened on January 6th. Leaving aside Southern’s pretended ability to know that AOC is “faking” when she gets emotional recalling the events of the day, it all comes down to a question fact – was the violence spontaneous or was it part of a coordinated attempt to illegally keep Trump in office.
The purpose of the Commission (vetoed by Trump Republicans) and now the Select Committee (rejected by Trump Republicans) is to answer that critical question. The fact that the GOP leaders who called for a thorough investigation in the immediate aftermath but – after visits to Mar-a-Lago – have reversed themselves points to the answer. Yes, it was.
But, ultimately, the answer to the critical question is going to be found in the EVIDENCE. Liz Cheney shared the answer from the EVIDENCE in her opening statement on Thursday night. Yes, there was a coordinated plan to subvert the election. She quoted the federal judge who ruled that details of planning were not covered by Executive Privilege.
“If Dr. Eastman and President Trump’s plan had worked, it would have permanently ended the peaceful transition of power, undermining American democracy and the Constitution. If the country does not commit to investigating and pursuing accountability for those responsible, the Court fears January 6th will repeat itself.”
