Putin Disinformation Apparatus Breaking Down?

Putin’s decades long campaign of disinformation and division has been a huge success. For example, it is not a stretch to say that his efforts gave us Trump, Trumpism and Brexit. There are many similar “success” stories in other countries as well. But now the whole structure built over decades appears to be crumbling under the pressure of the reality of his failed invasion of Ukraine.

  1. Is Putin’s disinformation apparatus breaking down? I doubt it. More likely, our own disinformation apparatus scored a temporary victory at the start of the war. After all, the CIA had a year in which to prepare for the invasion and we had been training the resistance ever since Russia started massing its army for the assault.

Russia’s information war against the West is as old as the Bolshevic Revolution. It has not endured a “spectacular collapse” by any means.

    1. Right. Getting caught and called out repeatedly every time Putin (or even better, Lavrov yesterday who said there was no invasion of Ukraine) says something, it is called out for what it is. If there was no failure in it, there would be no calling the lies the lies that they are.

Failure and breakdown are not the same. One should expect to win some/loose some in war, even information war.

        1. Continuing to tell lies and having the entire free world know they are lies is a failure and breakdown. Formerly, the lies were believed around the world. Now the propaganda is seen for what it is. I would call that a breakdown. And the thousands of Russians being arrested IN RUSSIA for protesting the unprovoked attack on a sovereign, neighboring country is further proof that the breakdown is occurring.

      1. Two things come to mind.

First, our news media almost universally described the invasion as an attempt to rebuild the old Soviet empire. There was no evidence for this, but nearly every pundit repeated it. Even people in this forum repeated it.

Second, from the beginning our media focused more heavily on human interest stories about mothers fleeing the war zone with their children, and the like. An understandable preoccupation, but one that precluded both military and geopolitical analysis.

I speculate that these two aspects of the media narrative were choreographed in advance by our deep state, but it is only a speculation.

        1. Your speculation, as usual is, um, let me find the correct word that is least offensive. Oh, yeah. FERTILIZER!

your Trump-esque fascination with a non-existent “deep state”is just a parroting of the Orange haired god-king of Mar-a-:ago.

You are both full of shit.

Georgia, Belarus, Crimea, Donbass, plus puppet regimes in several other “-Stan’s”.

Putin’s long statement I posted. Most of it was historical “reasoning” for gathering in the former flock.

Your denial is overlooking the obvious. International media is covering the war, not just us. Our supposed “deep state” doesn’t mean crap to them

He, and you, may deny the “reunion” of former Soviet states, but would be very disingenuous.
