The following quote from Vice President Henry Wallace from April 9, 1944 goes to show that the American experience of the last few years is nothing new. The people he describes are very recognizable in today’s politics.
“The American fascists are most easily recognized by their deliberate perversion of truth and fact. Their newspapers and propaganda carefully cultivate every fissure of disunity .…They claim to be super-patriots, but they would destroy every liberty guaranteed by the Constitution. They demand free enterprise, but are the spokesmen for monopoly and vested interest. Their final objective toward which all their deceit is directed is to capture political power so that, using the power of the state and the power of the market simultaneously, they may keep the common man in eternal subjection.”
Well, it’s 77 years out of context, but it is still an excellent description of the Democratic Party of today.

Because you say so?
Which party is seeking to expand the ability of the government to direct our actions?
The Fascists of today call themselves ‘Social Democrats.’

Your constant repeating of nonsense does not make it true. We now have one democratic party in this country – the Democratic Party. Trump and Trumpism carry all the hallmarks of fascism that Henry Wallace identified in 1944. Not because I say so, because it is obviously true. Maybe you should “read more carefully.”

Again, which party seeks more control over our choices?
A party that seeks more individual freedom cannot be fascist.
What is it that you see and ‘hallmarks of fadcism?’

We are talking about ‘fascism.” It is a word with an actual meaning which does not correspond to your use of it.
Per Merriam Webster . . .
“fascism : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition”
Henry Wallace fleshed that out in his comments quoted above. It does NOT fit Democrats or “Social Democrats” both of which are champions of DEMOCRACY.

So those European countries of today that are led by Social Democrats are actually fascists? Those people happy in those countries would be very surprised to hear that.

LOL!. Look in the mirror.
You impugn my honesty out of the blue and then accuse me of name-calling for the tongue-in-cheek use of “Trumpkin?”

And yet, Bruce, an educator such as yourself can read what Henry Wallace said about fascism in America and you – not being stupid – can see how it applies to a Republican Party erected by an autocrat on a scaffold of the Big Lie. Right?
