Biden Politicizes SS Administration

Biden ousts independent SS Administrator

One of the good things that came from Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich’s cooperation after the 1994 election was that the Social Security Administration was removed from HHS and made an independent agency whose director had a 6 year term and could be fired only for malfeasance.

But that reform is over. At the request of 3 Democrat Senators, Commissioner Andrew Saul was removed, with no explanation given. The Senators were acting on complaints from lawyers representing SSI Disability recipients who were angered that Saul was conducting ongoing reviews, as required by law, to determine if they were still qualified as disabled. Since 2008, SSI Disability had become a de facto welfare program abused by millions with questionable status. The fund was rapidly running out of money and Saul was appointed to restore the Disability system to solvency by limiting false claims.

Following the law is now cause for dismissal. So much for independent, non-partisan agencies.

    1. Your cite says the same thing I did but in Newspeak.

How can enforcing the law regarding Disability benefits be “anti-labor?” It’s about people who don’t labor.

His mission is to preserve the fund for those who truly qualify. Not for those who decline to work.

        Hardly.

You did not say that he was a shitty manager alienating the entire organization and its constituency. You did not mention he was political appointee (big GOP donor) without qualifications for the job. You did not mention that he delayed without good reason desperately needed Covid relief checks approved by Congress.

“His mission is to preserve the fund for those who truly qualify. Not for those who decline to work.”

Certainly, that is part of his mission. In fulfilling this mission he was causing too much collateral damage.

        1. SSI Disability was on cruise control to destruction in less than a decade and the staff was merrily going along for the ride, so ruffling some feathers was pretty much his job.

Maybe so, I have no desire to argue with you on the details. It would be moot if people like you would open your minds to UBI and Medicare for all so that desperate people did not have to game a dog’s breakfast of support programs to survive.

What you call “ruffling feathers” I referred to as collateral damage. In his zeal he was hurting too many people who desperately needed what he was blocking. That, as it turned out, was a firing offense.

But since Democrats are incapable of considering the consequences of their actions past the next election, that doesn’t worry you.

Your silly bullshit is growing tiresome. It is the Republicans who – when trusted with power – screw things up. The EVIDENCE that this is true goes back through several administrations. We are ALWAYS forced to clean up YOUR messes over YOUR opposition. This year is no exception. Just worse than usual.

Whatever problems Social Security might have, an incompetent, people-hating, union-busting political hack is not the man to fix them. Of course, he is ideal from your point of view. Your biggest boogie man is competent people in positions of authority in the government.

  1. We all know the real reason he was let go. It was for no reason but being a Trump appointee. Schmuck Biden and his nanny pants Democrats don’t even have the due courtesy to hang the portrait of a duly elected president in the white house. What a bunch of children pretending to be adults.

    1. I wish it were such simple pettiness.

But the Trial Lawyers Association has a lot of clout and a lot at stake in the SSI Disability issue.

So, I expect this is just another debt being paid.

That is what you ALWAYS suspect. Everyone is “corrupt” except for the crowd that is actually corrupt. Of course, you never have any evidence – just your suspicions.

        1. The Democrat Party exists to use government power to reward its supporters. Especially its largest donor.

Of course it is corrupt. It is good at virtue signaling, but it always pays off its supporters with other people’s money, no matter the consequences.

          1. Laughable. And actually kind of sad that a supposedly grown man with a very high opinion of his own intellect embarrasses himself by posting such partisan nonsense.

ALL parties run on donor money and the Republicans typically get the biggest share. One party has done its best over the years to minimize the power of money in politics and the other party has blocked those efforts at every turn.

As for the current issue, as is often the case, your logic is backwards. Assume that Mr. Saul was going to continue to be very stringent with SSI Disability payments and assume – as you do – that the Biden replacement will be far more free and easy. Now, exercise your stable genius and tell us – which scenario generates more cases for those greedy lawyers to chow down on? The answer is obvious which shows again that your accusations of a payoff are pure horseshit.

          2. Nearly all SSI Disability cases are taken on a contingent fee basis. The lawyers get a cut of the benefits until their fee is covered, which is forever. So, they make the most money with a lot of easy cases.

How about a real world scenario for you. A woman in her late 50’s is diagnosed with cancer. She is treated and survives, but the treatments weakened her to the point where she could no longer work. She applies for SSDI. She is denied. She reapplies with the assistance of someone on the SSDI office. Denied again. She is then FORCED to hire an attorney to present her case. Lo and behold, the case is won. The woman receives back payments to when her disability occurred. Over 3 years. The lawyer takes his fee out of that lump sum payment and is done and the woman receives her monthly payments until her death at 77.

That was my mother’s story. If the SSA would not just deny cases out of hand and FORCE applicants to hire an attorney MAYBE, just maybe, there would be no issue. But the reality is that people HAVE to hire an attorney to prove their disabilities because medical records alone are not enough for Dick or Jane to receive the benefit.

The corruption has nothing to do with party. And the fired individual did not have anything to do with what has been going on for DECADES. But, like the FBI Director, he/she serves at the pleasure of the President.

That is just plain stupid. If the Democrats are simply passing out money as you say they will after removing Saul then there won’t be any easy cases. You don’t got to a lawyer if your claim has been accepted. Duh!

If you insist on being a bullshit artist at least be man enough to admit when you have been caught at it instead of this silly obfuscation.

Not nearly as much as The Heritage Foundation does when it comes to judicial appointments.

Your disdain is partisan, as usual, and duly noted.
