The Qanon Presidency

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2020/10/trump-qanon-denounce/616751/

In the NBC Town Hall last night Trump tried to walk back his earlier refusal to disavow White Supremacy. Good for him. Small steps are better than none. But then, as the late Texas Governor Anne Richards might say “Bless his heart, he cannot help himself” because he went on to refuse to disavow QAnon saying only that pedophilia is bad.

So, what is Qanon?

From the Washington Post . . . “It’s a concoction of allegations against Democratic politicians, celebrities and supposed members of a “deep state” bureaucracy against whom Trump is seen as valiantly battling. Purported pedophilia rings are central to the conspiracy theory, along with Satanism and secret judicial proceedings. QAnon believers await the ‘Great Awakening,’ or the moment the general public realizes the conspiracy exists, and the ‘Storm,’ when thousands of wrongdoers face justice. “

Does Trump actually believe this bizarre and dangerous nonsense? Or does he understand his base and does not want to de-motivate them? Who knows. Either answer is bad for this country.

No matter how many times you tell that lie it will still remain a lie. Trump has never refused to denounce white supremacy, though he did refuse to engage in guilt by association. And you know the difference, you just hope others might not.

  2. I watched the first debate. I saw and heard how he handled that question and what he had to say to the Proud Boys. Watch for yourself how he stumbles over this softball question . . .

As I stated accurately, at this Town Hall Trump DID try to walk back this refusal to disavow White Supremacy.

Because the obvious truth is something that you do not want to believe does not make me a liar so you can take your accusation and do you know what with it. And maybe YOU should review the rules of this forum?

      1. You STILL want to talk about Charlottesville and how his “fine people” comment was interpreted. You are changing the subject. I was referring to his failure in the first debate to unequivocally condemn White Supremacy. And his shout out to the Proud Boys. THAT is what he has taken a lot of heat for and THAT is what he was walking back last night.

Not accurate. In the clip you provided, Trump did not in fact “refuse to to disavow White Supremacy.” He had nothing to walk back.

He behaved the way he behaved. He said what he said. It is there for anyone to see.

A real President – not some clown who thinks he is playing a President on reality show TV – would have taken that EASY question as a chance to unequivocally denounce White Supremacy, racism, political violence and offered comments to bring us together and get past such divisions. Not Trump. He hemmed and hawed, pretended to not understand the question, tried to change the subject and ended with a shout out to the Proud boys.

Yes, even in the transcript at your link, where his first atatement is, “I’m prepared to do that….”

        1. “Prepared to do that” is NOT doing that.

Biden interjected “Okay, Do it.” And he didn’t.
Wallace said in effect “Okay, Do it.” And he didn’t.

Why did he NOT just do it? Then and there with the biggest audience of the campaign? The answer is obvious to all but the willfully blind – he Was afraid that his “base” would not want him to disavow White Supremacy. There is NO OTHER REASON that makes any sense.
